Dear Jens Huene,

thank you for your comment on April 26, 2009. You wrote:

"After upgrading to Firmware-Version: 021840000000 / 043.00 I have problems with prefix which is automatically added to numbers which are from the same prefix. I dial like 030-1234 and 030030-1234 is dialed by the phone. My numbers are stored in the phonebook with prefix because of flexible dialing in case of voip connections.
Shortly after resetting the gigaset by removing the power plug everything is fine but after some time the problem occurs again. Is this a bug in the new firmware?
"

We are taking this bug very serious and want to eliminate it. This is why my colleagues from Product Management and me need more information about this issue, in order to improve the Firmware. We have some questions for you:

First, will the prefix be added for fixed-line and/or IP calls?

Second, which is your current configuration? Did you define in the Web Configurator -> Settings -> Telephony -> Dialling Plans the "Local prefix/area code"? Did you activate in the Web configurator "Predial area code for local calls trough VoIP"?

Third, do you use dialling plans?

We from Siemens Gigaset would like to get in direct contact with you to solve the problem. The best thing for us would be if you could contact me on mschaeufele(at)gmail.com. I would make contact then between you and my colleagues from Product Management.
If you prefer to stay anonym please answer here on this blog.

Thank you very much for your cooperation! This is the spirit and intended purpose of this Gigaset-Blog!

New QuickSync 4.0 for Siemens Gigaset SL780 and SL785

20090417_QuickSyncSoftware.jpgWelcome the latest version of the Gigaset QuickSync 4.0 for Siemens Gigaset SL780 and SL785. Here is a brief overview of the new features:

* Entries in the phone’s address book can be synchronized with Outlook

* The handset can be personalized with images and sounds

* If pictures are transferred via Bluetooth, the new software scales all the photos to 240x320 pixels (screensaver) or 240x130 pixels (Picture CLIP)

Especially the last feature is quite nice in my opinion. I am a big fan of wireless transfer. The automatic downscale is quite convinient in this regard. As a result, there is room for around 100 photos in the free memory (3 MB). Ok fair enough 3 MB is not a lot but I don't think anyone needs more then 100 pictures on a Siemens Gigaset handset...

Download QuickSync 4.0

Siemens Gigaset SL785 IP - New IP phone in 2009? -UPDATE-

20090120_sl780.jpg
I have news: An IP version of the SL780 is under discussion but not yet sure if it will be implemented. So don't wait for it now but go for this solution as proposed by Jirka on Jan 22th on this blog:

I quote:
"I have purchased two SL780 (because it was cheaper, than two SL78H). This I have registered at bases of type S685 IP for a long time (ok, two months) and so I have my own put together SL785 IP. It works fine. Many others have done likewise, see IP-Phone-Forum. I don't have ECO Mode Plus with its Zero Transmission Mode, but this I don't need."
End of quote

Here you can check if your phone is compatible:

Siemens Gigaset SL785 IP - New IP phone in 2009?

As the Siemens Gigaset SL780 and SL785 are a huge success for Siemens Gigaset so far, it would be consistent to release an IP version of the phone in the year 2009. Probably it would not be named SL785 IP but Siemens Gigaset SL795 IP because the middle number represents the release year. Everyone who would be interested in an IP version of the SL780/ SL785 leave a comment here please. Maybe we can push it a little bit...

Explaining Siemens Gigaset 3: VoIP
Categories: Specials | VoIP

20090105_s685ip.jpg
Picture: Latest VoIP phone by Gigaset: S685 IP

Internet telephony so-called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has to be be distinguished from old-fashioned fixed line telephony. It is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over the Internet or other packet-switched networks. Other terms frequently encountered and synonymous with VoIP are IP telephony, as well as voice over broadband, broadband telephony, and broadband phone, when the network connectivity is available over broadband Internet access.

VoIP systems usually interface with the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN) to allow for transparent phone communications worldwide. VoIP can be a benefit for reducing communication and infrastructure costs by routing phone calls over existing data networks and avoiding duplicate network systems. Skype and Vonage are notable service provider examples that have achieved widespread user and customer acceptance and market penetration. Voice-over-IP systems carry telephony speech as digital audio, typically reduced in data rate using speech data compression techniques, packetized in small units of typically tens of milliseconds of speech, and encapsulated in a packet stream over IP.
