VoIP – a new era in telephony
Categories: Voice

Why not make national and international calls for free? What may sound like an untrustworthy advertising promise is in reality a breakthrough in communication technology. The secret to this new approach to telephony lies in four little letters: VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol.

The fast data transfer of the internet or local IP networks is used to send digitalized voice streams from A to B. And in case of utilizing the internet as carrier of the signals, it makes no difference how far A and B are apart. Calling someone on another continent in crystal-clear digital quality therefore is no illusion. The sound of one’s voice is being digitalized in realtime at the point of internet (or IP network) access and transferred to the recipient’s access point, where it then becomes hearable.

And of course, not only voice signals can be sent through our modern data speedways. Any data that is digitalize-able is suited for IP-based transfer. Hence video-telephony and online conferences are very easily applicable.

Soon we will offer a full range of VoIP phones:

The new Gigaset C450 IP Dect phone , available in March 2006, combines the ease of use and reliability of traditional telephony with the advantages of VoIP. You just plug in the Dect base station into the phone connector and additionally the LAN connector into the DSL router, everything else stays the same. The SIP-Provider-settings are loaded online from the Internet – you do not need to understand or type in any settings.

Our WLAN phone Gigaset S35 and SL75 send signals straight to your wireless broadband router, eliminating the need for a PC. Just use the WLAN phone as you would a normal phone – and you’re on your way to taking advantage of cost-efficient internet telephony.
