Seoul is the city with the world’s most WLAN hotspots with 2.056, reports JiWire a WLAN hotspot information service. Roughly 100.355 Wireless Local Area Networks are up and running across the globe at the moment. That’s an increase of 87% over 2005’s numbers. The United States is the leader in the hotspot ranking with around 37.073 networks, followed by the United Kingdom (12.668) and South Korea (9.415). Germany ranks fourth with 8.614 hotspots. The runner-up in the category “city with the most WLAN hotspots” behind Seoul is Tokyo, Japan (1.820). The English capital of London comes in third with 1.627. More and more wireless LAN networks go online everyday in hotels, restaurants, cafés, airports, train stations and even pubs.

Today’s WLAN access points can easily reach data transmission rates of up to 54 Megabits per second, but the trend is growing towards rates of up to an amazing 108 Mbps. Siemens Gigaset offers a whole range of high-speed and reliable WLAN devices like the Gigaset SE555 WLAN dsl. But be careful: they might just change the way you use the internet.

9.415 hotspots located in Germany, not bad... I think this technology will knock out UMTS.
