I'd love to use this in the US.

My Gigaset 4000s died an evil, pinging and popping death - and while I despise paying so much for a phone that died from normal use, it was also the most intuitive and best feature set of any phone I've ever owned.

I've replaced them with a Panasonic set which is klunky and obnoxious. We are currently on Vonage, but I would gladly change to BroadVoice or another pure SIP provider to use a phone like this.

Two questions:
What's the best Seimens analog phone right now (that doesn't suffer a 12-month death from pings and pops)?
Would the S450 IP work with BroadVoice?

How does the Gigaset S450 IP proritise IP traffic? I propose to replace my current ATA with an S450. THe current ATA has 2 RJ45's one to the internet and one to the local LAN. Because of this it proiritises VoIP traffic over web browsing.

WIth the S450, will my PC be able to degrade a phone call by (for example) downloading a large file while I am on the phone?

The S450IP limits the caller id to 15 characters. This is fine. The problem is that if the name is longer thatn 15 characters, the S450IP will not truncate, and just show "unknown" for the name.
Could you verify this?

And if Gigaset would come out with a new firmware revision that fixed this, that would be excellent!! (asuming new firmware could fix this).

My old Siemens Gigaset 2400 handsets all failed with the same symtoms. I've read that the failure was caused by a manufacturing shortcut.

sry no release date exists for the products in US & Russia yet...

Why is it that I can download the Italian version of the full manual for the S450 IP but when I try to download the International full version, it blocks after 600 - 700MB?
I asked this question a few days ago but my question must have been moderated as it has disappeared - perhaps one is not permitted to criticize Siemens - the fact remains that the above pdf. file cannot be downloaded.
I have ordered a router and three S45 handsets so I hope I can begin to use them when they arrive this week. Having owned a Gigaset 3015 since the beginning of time, I am still hoping Siemens will help its customers

Many thanks - using Explorer instead of Mozilla was the answer. I now have received my S450 IP and two extra handsets but after connecting the Base to the Neuf Box via ethernet and standard phone cable, I can only get the phone line and not SkypeOut. The two extra phones still display 'Please register" and even using the manual register function doesn't seem to help. Are there any step by step set up instructions in English to connect SkypeOut to my Gigaset? Perhaps I should establish a Siemens Gigaset Net ID and try to 'see' that?

I would like to attach an S44 handset too my S450 IP basestation but it seems that the two devices can’t communicate with another.

I’ve updated the S450 firmware (version 020810000000 / 041.00) and tried to connect the s44 to it as described in the manual.

The range indicator keeps blinking and keeps searching for a base station.

Does anyone know whether this is possible and how to realise this?

I've upgraded my S450IP to firmware version 020810000000 / 041.00 and EEPROM version 103.

Now, my phone keeps telling me "Provider Registration Failed" after a while (my guess is after Registration Refresh Time) and no calls can come in nor can I make outgoing calls until I turn the base station off and on, or I unplug and replug the ethernet cable into the basestation. Deactivating and reactivating the provider in the phone's web configuration does not help.

Checking the Asterisk logs, it seems that the phone is trying to register with Asterisk but does not provide identification information (such as username and secret). Asterisk prompts the phone with an Unauthorised and the phone keeps trying to register without proper identification and eventually gives up.

So it seems like the phone forgets registration information after the first (or first few) registrations. I have also tried doing a configuration reset on my basestation (by holding down the page button when powering the basestation up), and just in case, on the handsets as well, but no help.

This is irritating because it means I have a phone that needs constant resetting every now and then. My temporary solution is to max out the registration refresh time, but that still requires me to reset the phone now and then.

Please look into this, the problem did not occur until I upgraded from the previous version of the firmware to this one.

Why do my s450ip's chargers buzz so loudly? All 3 sound far louder than any of my other chargers. Is this a Siemens 'feature' or can I do something about it?

I've just got one of these and I'm confused. While I'm in a call on one line, what's supposed to happen if somebody rings me on the other line?

All that seems to be happening to me is.. nothing - the phone completely ignores any incomming calls.
