Hi, I understand that SL560 might not be available in the US ever. However, will it work in the US? I know that if I buy it in UK voltage will be different which is not a big problem.
Thanks
To Qs relating to this product:
- Is there any possibility to run this phone "in parallel" with a desktop phone and switch from one to the other while I'm on the line? I've done this for more than a decade with my old pre-DECT cordless phone and find it very convenient as I then can keep the cordless handset in my pocket while running around the house - and I don't have to take it out of my pocket to make a call when I'm at my desk.
- Any new version or new Siemens bluetooth DECT phone due soon? The Danish dealer I discussed this product with (www.headset.dk) recommended that I wait for a new version as there they've had quite a number of returns and problems with this phone. It sounded like software problems (he was not specific and I didn't ask) or it could be at network problem as the Danish phone system is different from moster other European countries.
Hi All,

Hi,
I have four of these phones (2x SL55, 2x SL56) - Overall I am very happy with them. I use the Bluetooth (SL56), DECT, Skype, SMS and CLI capabilities every day and have done for over a year.
I have European 2pin versions as I bought mine in Germany before they were available in UK, but the voltage (220-240v AC) is the same so they work fine.
In US with an appropriate mains (110v AC) adaptor they should work fine as both the base station and the units run off low voltage DC. The issue will be with the frequencies DECT use as these may interfere with other wireless devices in the US as the US govt (FCC) allocates different uses to frequencies than each of the EU govts does. Therefore usage in US may be illegal even if technically it works.
As to returns or otherwise in Denmark I don't know but it works fine in UK, and I have no issues with my phones. Once the base station is plugged & phones set-up it works like any other phone. So of course the other phones in your house will carry on working just like they did when you plug any other phone in. The only issue to think about is REN - which is the electrical load the phone company can support per house - plug too many phones into your line and you can literally overload it and none of the phones on the line will work properly, however the base station is the only thing being plugged in regardless of how many DECT handsets it supports.
Finally the software on these phones is DIRE. Yes it works, but you have to fight it all the way to get the functionality you want.
This is equally true of setting up the Skype/SIP dongle that again, once set-up, works flawlessly, but is a model of how not to design or write user software.
Finally the software on the handsets seems to be identical to Siemens mobile cellphone software (which I don't know for sure as I have never had one) but a number of shareware packages designed to work with the mobile phones happily connect and manage the handsets - these works better than the (again rubbish) officially supplied software in my opinion. Indeed if this is what Siemens "handy" customers had to put up with no wonder their cellphone business failed in the marketplace.
Hope that helps
Thanx a lot Ralph for this detailed information!
May I ask how come that you do have this knowledge? Only because of private use of Gigaset products? Or are you an insider...;)
i have the sl560 and the bluetooth sucks!!! i can not connect my handsfree at all, i connect the sl 560 with my pc it works i connect my hands free with an other phone it works but i try my handsfree with sl560 and nothing!! it seems that it is conecded but it is not ... WHY???!!!!!
Hello,
Just one question.... If you have SL560, can you use it through Bluetooth in order to use it with Skype????
I cannot believe how crappy this product is. After trying to send vCards from my Mac and failing, and also failing to receive them from the phone, an attempt to use it with my Jawbone headset also failed.
I've checked the PICS on Bluetooth's SIG to see what is inside this thing, and it supports Bluetooth 1.2 (outdated since months ago) plus only the Audio Gateway profile - when headsets expect Headset (HS) or Handsfree (HF) profiles!!!!!
OBEX is minimal, with just vCard 2.1 supported (and I bet not well implemented). This is going back to the store tomorrow.
