When will the S450 IP be available in the US? Thanks.

Jim Baack 5:56 PM, January 17, 2007

Still no S450 IP in french sores...
Still waiting, now for more the 3 months...

Zorglub 11:19 AM, January 18, 2007

Hi Zorglub,

sry that the phone is still not available...maybe this alternative product is interesting for you:

http://www.darty.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/DartyProductCardView?codic=2331438&c2=0&u=0&r=12449&f=13551&p=2331438&s=1112139&s=2370620&s=2370638&s=2380676&s=2376890&s=2370654&s=2323966&s=2309513&s=1132172&s=2331438&s=2313723&s=2323974&s=2315424&s=2397099&storeId=10001&m=-1&so=0&fsel=1

Hi Jim,

the S450 IP will be available in the States. As soon as I know when I will let you know...

Moritz 1:46 PM, January 18, 2007

Thanks for this proposal, Mortitz.
In fact, I almost bought the C450 IP in last semptember, when the S450 IP was announces. And I decided to postpone this buy for some weeks, to enjoy the better features of the new product.
Having waited so long, I think it's worthwile to wait a little (?) more...
I have seen on Siemens web site that the manual is now translated in french; may be this is a hint , and we will find it soon in our french shops (or maybe it's only for the sake of our belgium or swiss friends !).

Zorglub 1:53 PM, January 19, 2007

Hi Zorglub,

on Monday I can talk to my Siemens colleagues. I will let you know if it is worth waiting a little longer...;)

Moritz 3:02 PM, January 19, 2007

we need to buy 15 pack S450IP for our company in france ; when this product will be available in france because we can find easily in other country ? many people think the problem is with the yahoo S450 exclusivity.....

alan 3:57 AM, January 22, 2007

Salut Zorglub, Alan,

The production of the French S450 IP starts this week, that is to say the product will be in the stores beginning of February. I will try to find out in which stores the S450 IP will be sold...

Moritz 12:22 PM, January 22, 2007

Hi Moritz

Great news !
And thank you for keeping us posted !

Zorglub 1:38 PM, January 22, 2007

np...;)

Moritz 2:45 PM, January 22, 2007

Hi Zorglub, Alan,

my Siemens colleague in Paris just told me that the S450 IP will be available online latest end of February on these sites:

http://www.darty.fr
http://www.onedirect.fr

Moritz 3:10 PM, January 22, 2007

Hi Moritz

thank's for these good news - we will wait for a while...
best regards

alan 5:40 PM, January 22, 2007

When will the S450 IP be available in the Netherlands? Thanks.

Peter 11:17 PM, January 23, 2007

Hi Peter,

I will tell you as soon as I have the info!

Moritz 12:14 PM, January 26, 2007

The C460IP was released into the UK in early 2006, apparently as a variant of the C450IP.
The S450IP appears to have more "features" over the C450IP.

When will a UK equivalent of the S450IPIP be released into the UK?

Andrew 10:41 AM, January 27, 2007

Hi Andrew,

I will find out!

Moritz 12:13 PM, January 29, 2007

Hi Andrew,

good news. My UK colleague just told me that the S450 IP will be launched in UK within the next months. I will keep you up-to-date.

If you do not want to wait for the S450 IP the product which comes closest is - as you already mentioned - the C450 IP (respectively the C460 IP UK version). The key difference is that with the S450 IP you are able to make two parallel VoIP calls.

Moreover the S450 IP has:
> a SMS function &
> an expandable phone system with up to 6 handsets and 6 SIP accounts from different providers

Moritz 3:16 PM, January 29, 2007

Hi Peter,

the S450 IP is already available in the Netherlands! For example here:
http://www.telefoonshop.nl

Moritz 4:11 PM, January 29, 2007

Hi

I am confused... I have the C460IP yet this isn't referred to on the site???

I am having issues registering my second handset if anybody has any suggestions?

Paul 9:14 PM, February 1, 2007

Hi Paul,

here you can find information about the C460 IP:
http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,uk_en_0_122378_rArNrNrNrN,00.html
http://www.gigaset-blog.com/archive/2007/01/uk_special_siemens_gigaset_c46_1.html

Could you pls give a little more detail about the question you have in regard to your headset...;)

Moritz 11:11 AM, February 2, 2007

I have the S450 IP VoIP cordless and it is really bad , terrible voice quality with firmware release 83. delay is the most annoying tried with different combinations.

on the same ethernet plug i tried another SIP cheaper gateway and both of them work well (not cordless though) , but even connecting to the fixed line in this S450 IP and dedicationg fixed line connection has bad , bad quality, same settings on a simple sip-2 gateway adapter worked well.
- the italian contacts at the voice line at siemens don't even know if this fone is SIP v2 compliant or not.
- sorry siemens guys but this is a let downer product the support is not there at all the display is very slow and sloppy even initiating a call takes long sometimes even 2 seconds.
- oh not to mention that dropping and initiated call is even worse nearly 3 seconds !
- It seems like the DSP abord is very cheaply used with not good processing power.
- How can this be a valued Gigaset product ? you'll could have done better for sure.

aniston 11:47 AM, February 2, 2007

Hi Aniston,

sry that you are not satisfied with the S450 IP. I will report your problems to my colleagues.

Regards,
Moritz

Moritz 12:46 PM, February 2, 2007

Dear Moritz,
Thank you for taking the time to provide a response.
But just to be clear, what will the product code of the "soon to be released" UK version of the S450IP be? (=> S460IP?)
When your UK colleagues state a few months, just how many is that? When would UK on-line retailers be able to order and stock the new UK product?
Do you have any idea of how much the new product will cost, relative to existing models?
If I purchase a C460IP now (needs must), would this be compatible as an extra handset and/or range extender with the new product?
Regards
Andrew

Andrew 6:50 PM, February 2, 2007

Hi Guys,

Good and bad news here !

Good: a blog where we could talk directly to siemens guys, S450IP soon available.
Bad: bad feedback on this phone....hum

I have few questions on this particular phone :
- about quality. I was a Siemens phone fanatic until I bought a gigaset 4000...really poor quality, half duplex when in handfree mode, etc. What would be the S450IP market ?
- about multi SIP providers AND POTS line : the best thing should be to be able to configure a dial plan. i.e. all phone numbers beginning by 06 -> POTS 0034 -> SIP provider 1 default -> SIP provider 2 .
- about web interface : is there a chance to be able to populate address book directly by the WUI ? I don't have any microsoft windows computer....only UNIX and Mac OS X

TIA

Nicolas 7:17 PM, February 3, 2007

Hum.

About dial-plan, gigaset french support answered "no, you can't". Hey guys, can't you think about add this to the firmware, it is a really needed functionnality.

To aniston : did you try with different codecs ? You may have used G729 with S450 and G711 with other phone ????

Nicolas 10:12 AM, February 5, 2007

Hi Andrew,

thx for your interest in the S450 IP. The product name will be S450 IP, not S460IP. Sry but I do not have an exact date for the product launch...but I will keep you up-to-date as soon as I know...the price will be around 130,00 Euro. And yes: Gigaset handsets are compatible!

Hi Nicolas,

I really do appriciate all comments on this blog, also the censorious ones, because the spirit and purpose of this website is to have an open discussion. Could the support answer all your questions?

Moritz 6:32 PM, February 8, 2007

Hi Folks,

does anybody know a piece of software to create a phonebook file that suits the S450IP? It definitively does not work with Excel - no matter if you use the MAC version or the Windows version.

Using a plain file with tab stops works - however. But you really have to enter _ALL_ the tabs, no matter if the line is terminated by or . In addition to that, you have to find an editor that does not write a header about character-encoding to the file. Or you will be left again with the annoying message - "ERROR AT POSITION 1 IN LINE 1".

Another issue is the content of the file, you download from the S450IP. It carries a lot more information than defined in the manual. There are even additional CR/LF in this file.
This leads to the problem, that you cannot reimport the file into your phonebook database, it would render all other content unusable. (One may want to synchronise those numbers that were entered by hand, nest-ce pas?)

Please - SIEMENS guys - help making the phonebook access an easy to use and useful feature.

BTW: I guess, quite a lot of users are able to count COLONS. Not too difficult this task. But - and please take me serious - how many users are able to count TAB-STOPS?

Uli 9:58 AM, February 9, 2007

Moritz,

This blog is pretty nice...but can't be as usable as a forum...like Siemens maintain for german-spoken people.

Concerning support answers...they are support answers ! I mean something like :
- yes we support
- no, we don't support
- I can't tell you if we have the project to put this facility in a future fw
- I understand sir, and I'm sure that our engineers will develop this type of functionnality if they could.

So....support can't be usable for enhancement requests.

Nicolas 4:34 PM, February 9, 2007

Hi,

My question is on the multiple VoIP SIP accounts on the S450 IP.

Based on the S450 IP documentation page 6, you can have multiple accounts ONLY with the SAME VoIP provider.

On this page there is the following sentence:
"Expandable phone system with multiline functionality for up to 6 handsets and 6 SIP accounts from different providers "

As explained, based on the Siemens official documentation, this is an incorrect statement, can some confirm ?

What I would like to be sure is: can we have for example a VoIP account with a Provider1 and Provider2 on a S450 IP. This would means that we could for example configure the following settings:
username1, password1, Registar1: sip1.provider1.com and
username2, password2, Registar2: sip2.provider2.com

Thanks.

Sam 10:30 PM, February 9, 2007

Hum. Just ordered my S450IP on voipsolutions.be . Hope that your next firmware will be able to put some dial-plan, including dial-plan depending on days or time of calls. It would be THE killer options guys !
For french people, rueducommerce seems to be able to send the phone in 15 days, see :

http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Telephonie/Telephone-VoIp/Telephone-VoIp/SIEMENS/398314-Telephone-VoIp.htm

Nicolas 5:50 PM, February 11, 2007

Warning! for new Firmware version: 020570000000/038.00 EEPROM version: 90

Hum. Just installed my S450IP on cellip.se . This firmware will not work att all!!

:-(

Zerone 9:51 AM, February 21, 2007

Just installed mine. The firmware 02057 blabla is working for me (phonesystems.net).

The biggest issue is ... call signalization . When using VoIP, fixed line calls do not generate call signalization on the used handset. When using fixed line, VoIP calls do not generate call signalization on the used handset. Ok, the other handset is ringing. But....huh, the other handset is in another room.
The best will be to ring the other handset AND propose a call signalization on the used handset.

Nicolas 12:55 AM, February 22, 2007

Hey Guys,

I've sent some request for enhancements/bug-corrections to french customer care. Is there any chance that these requests would be evaluated by technical people ?

Nicolas 1:28 PM, February 23, 2007

All,
have been also experimenting with the SL450IP and the new firmware 02057 with multiple providers. Full opperatianal with Voipbuster, but FWD is giving problems (can receive calls, but not call out). Any experiance or good documentation how to set this up?

What I also have not figured out, is how to dail out using IP2 if the default is IP1. Is there a way to do this, like using a * for fixed lines?

Dyan 8:38 PM, February 24, 2007

We need a forum to discuss about this phone !

One issue : there is a problem with ID search in address book when phone numbers are entered with a star '*' in address book.
Gee...

Nicolas 11:56 AM, February 26, 2007

Hum. This is a GREAT phone.

Pros :
- multiple SIP providers
- great voice quality
- any GAP phone may be registered
- SMS and all fixed-line services stay available
- address book fully uploadable/downloadable from any type of computer
- give a sip phone to anyone with this one !

Cons (or enhanced needed) :
- no discussion forum on the net...or ticketing system to share on bug/rfe/etc
- automatic FW download without notification...and no "changes list" anyware on the net
- usage of multiple sip provider need multiple handset (could be cool...but other option is needed, like *2 for SIP provider 2)
- some bugs....see previous (like the star one). These could be resolved....but when ? Is there anybody really take care ?
- for now, impossible to make a direct-call to a domain name (IP direct only)

Nicolas 11:18 PM, February 26, 2007

Nicolas,
I agree in your observations: great phone, but at this moment a lack in documentation and (technical) support.

I have adressed this to the Siemens helpdesk as I had already raised questions on how to solve certain problems. See how they will react.

In the meantime I would approciate any experiance on this subject.

Dyan 5:04 PM, February 28, 2007

Dyan,

Technical support seems to have back 90's reactions !
Yesterday I've sent them a mail to know if there's any way to send them some technicals details (traces, dump, ...) to analyse panics. I have a gigaset 3000 handset registered onto my S450, and I had twice a panic/reboot when on call, a VoIP call.
The answer was to reset totally the S450 and if that can't solve my problem to bring back my S450 to a repair center. Repair center ? Even without any diag ? If the solution is in a firmware bug, repair center would never solve my issue !

I think they have to rewrite all their procedures....diagnostic and repair on S450 IP can't be the same than on old DECT phones !

And I repeat......we need a Siemens forum in ENGLISH about these new phones, with Siemens people attached to answers to technical problems.

Nicolas 5:59 PM, February 28, 2007

Hi,

I've seen that the C455 IP is multiline (like the S450 IP), I'd like to buy it in France.
Is there any plan to sell it in France ?
Or do I need to buy it in Germany or in Switzerland ?

Thanks.

Emmanuel 7:53 PM, February 28, 2007

Hi Emmanuel,

sry the C455 IP is not sold in France. The C450 IP can be bought here:

http://search.rueducommerce.fr/Telephonie/Telephone-VoIp/Telephone-VoIp/SIEMENS/381148-Telephone-sans-fil-VoIp.htm

Moritz 10:48 AM, March 2, 2007

Hi Moritz,

I already have three C450 IP (with multiple C45), but I can only have 1 VoIP (and 1 POTS) with them. I'd like to have two VoIP (and 1 POTS) like on the C455 IP.

The S450 IP doesn't support 3 simultaneous external call (like the C455 IP does).

Is there any way to contact Siemens France in order to ask for the distribution of the C455 IP ?

Thanks for your help.

Emmanuel 11:58 AM, March 2, 2007

Well.

I've talked more than 30 minutes with the french-speaking support team about my issues.
Hey ! You've gad a really good team ! Discussion was really profitable to me and them. I have no example of such technical quality in a consumer support team since many decades ! Even if they don't know the whole SIP protocol, they are able to make good suggestions or to ask pertinent questions.

I hope that development teams have good communications pipe with them !
Nicolas

Nicolas 4:41 PM, March 2, 2007

Hi Moritz,
Looking for a forum I found only your site.
Hope to see more development for the S450. It's a nice handset, but it lacks a few functions.

The multiple providers and dialplan were already mentioned. Would be a great enhancement for the phone. I use my phone with an Asterisk server, but my mother uses the same phone without. A cheap VOIP-server or a buitl-in dialplan would be appreciated.

Missed calls could use an update:
I can freely change the caller ID name and number, the handset shows the name, but it won't remember it so I can't call back. Can it only be used with the PSTN line? OR can you give me some hints?

Also typical:
When used with a cheaper solution comparable with a C450 the S450 handset has no functionality. The other way the S450 base could be accessed completely with the cheaper handset.
One might expect protectionism the other way.

Huub 11:09 AM, March 4, 2007

On my Siemens S450 IP with
Firmware version: 020570000000 / 038.00
EEPROM version: 90
there is no option for "Calls list type" at all. If I go to Settings - Base, the top option is "Music on hold". I've even checked with another S45 handset registered to the same base station. Siemens support says the option should be there.

Anyone else that has experienced the same problem?

Daniel 7:49 PM, March 6, 2007

hi,

is my understanding correct that if you want to use two SIP accounts from two different SIP providers you need two handsets? If so, will incoming calls ring on both handsets or just one? I'm assuming you do not need a POTS line for it to work, correct? Thanks! Jonas

jonas 9:35 PM, March 8, 2007

Jonas,

It's up to you. You may have rings on all handsets or on one particular...and it's true account by account.
The issue for now is for call-out. You can't use the account you want when you want. You have to choose the account by handset.

Nicolas 9:26 PM, March 9, 2007

thanks nicolas. i have yet another (stupid) question: is it possible to use for example the S455 as the second handset in order to get an answering machine? or can you only use a true handset like the s45? thanks again.

jonas 3:46 PM, March 10, 2007

As said in the documentations, any DECT/GAP handset may be registered on S450 base.
But the answering machine is always on the BASE, not on the handset. C45 handset, as S45 can't ba an anwsering machine.

Anyway...I can't understand why people need an answering machine....telco companies do provide this facilty.

Nicolas 7:31 PM, March 10, 2007

Hi Nicolas,

if you go on answering those questions, be careful that I do not offer you a job at Siemens in Munich...;)

To be honest: It's good to see that you guys are talking to each other exchanging experiences. THX for that! To everyone...

Moritz 11:40 PM, March 10, 2007

I own this phone and am quite happy with it. My wish list for it are the following:

1. The email pop3 should support SSL. Many people use gmail and more and more providers are implementing this as a standard.

2. Ability to reply to an email. I understand that the text may be limited in size but given that the phone already has the technology to cater for Messengers and SMS's I don't think it should have been a problem to allow short emails to be sent.

3. I have more than one handset, yet can only have one email account and one messenger account. I think it would be a considerable improvement if each phone could have its own settings. this would probably result in one gigaset per family member as is the case with mobile phones.

Regards
Al

Alan Bonnici 5:25 PM, March 11, 2007

The only thing I can criticize (and a lot) is the predictive text. For example I tried typing in this message: “This is a example on my phone”.

On a Sony Ericsson T630 (T9): “This is an example on my phone” (a pop up menu came up with on).

On a Nokia 6630 (T9): “This is an example on my phone”

On Gigaset S450 (Predicitive Text): “This is an fyansle on ow shome”

Alan Bonnici 8:11 PM, March 11, 2007

Hi Alan,
thx for your input.

Moritz 9:36 PM, March 11, 2007

Hi Moritz,

Munich....hum. Too cold for me ! But if you could find some room in Toulouse factory, I may give you some hours of my time ;).

Nicolas 1:55 PM, March 12, 2007

Comment is back. Nicolas'return. :)

As I said, I had great discussions with the french support line. But I'd like to have more informations on new FW procedures. Is there a chance to have some new FW for S450IP in the next months ?
Will you publish a "What's new" with this future FW ?

Last thing, a suggestion : it would be great to extand your current FW to enable a "SIP proxy" functionnality thru IP network. Just imagine you'd be able to develop IP-only phones (cabled or wireless) OR sell S450 to customer who want to use other SIP-phones (soft or hard).

Nicolas 1:52 AM, March 29, 2007

Hello,

I have a strange problem with a C455IP (same firmware as S450IP).

I have 5 sips accounts defined on it and there are working well. But after 50 hours, some of them stop registering with SIP provider (my Asterisk IP PBX). The problem exists with firmware 02057 and 02059. I've reproduced it 2 times (this week).

The C450IP (firmware 01059) doesn't have this problem.

If some Siemens developper read this: thanks for the support of Flash key in SIP (it's very useful).

Emmanuel 6:00 PM, March 30, 2007

After several months, I eventually bought a S450 IP !
I am quite happy with it, excepted for some limits :
It was impossible to suscribe my older (non Siemens) Gap handsets on the S450IP base, and the support was not able to help me. I've read somewhere that the current firmware version of C450IP has the same problem.
So I bought four Gigaset S45 handsets and added them to my base. The basic functions work fine, but some advanced functions are not available : access to gigaset.net directory and network, the modification of the display keys usage, ...
I am still waiting an answer from the support. Their first advice were to buy "S45IP" handsets, which are unknown from Siemens ! I hope they will give me a more serious advice soon ;) ...
Last things : because S450IP does not support SSL (yet ?), you can't use Google products as email or messenger. Other non SSL mail or messaging systems work fine.
By the way, does someone know how to use the gigaset.net messenger ? You can choose it from the Web configurator, but I don't know how to add contacts.

Zorglub 3:49 PM, April 3, 2007

Hello Zorglub,

For Gigaset.net directory, you can try 1188#9 followed by the green key.

Emmanuel 3:58 PM, April 3, 2007

Hi All,

Just got my hands on a trial unit (S450IP), first in Australia.

All good, nice unit, working well.

Just thought I'd add my vote for some custom dailing plans, a much needed feature that would really finish this unit of nicely.

Cheers,
KrisH

KrisH 1:27 PM, April 4, 2007

Hi All,

I'm pretty satisfied with my S450 IP, although number recognition does not always work. Sometime it just shows 'External', while I'm sure the number was not blocked.

When I call an IP address directly, what is necessary at the receiving computer ?
I assume I need to have some program running that receives the call. Could e.g. the VoipBuster software be used for that purpose ?
What about when the receiving computer is in a local network? Do I need to have portforwarding enabled ? What port is used ?
Any other issue I should take care of?

I'm not sure if this blob is for this kind of questions, but I'll give it a try!

Thanks,
Jan

Jan 11:17 AM, April 5, 2007

Hi Jan,

To receive Direct-IP call you need a software which knows SIP and RTP protocol and one of CODEC used by S450. There is many software able to deal with this ( SJPhone, X-Lite, .... ). I did try SJPhone and it works on the same LAN.
You may use any port you want for SIP, but you need to be able to open this port on the Internet side. RTP ports should automatically chosed with STUN enabled.
Last thing, S450 is unable to call multiple lines on the same address and port....there is no way, for now, to call a sip address 3312@mysip.no.com:5060 .

Nicolas 9:45 AM, April 6, 2007

Hi all,

This S450 IP seems to be a great DECT/IP phone, just a last question before buying a set. As far as I read, there is no answering machine included in this box. Is there any plan in Siemens to include one, or is there another solution, or I'm definitively "has been" (in fact my wife is requesting it).

Regards

Loic 10:31 PM, April 7, 2007

Thanks Nicolas,

I installed SJPhone and it worked fine on my LAN. I'm just wondering, if I cannot use a call to a sip address, how to forward the call by the S450IP on the internet to the right machine by just using the IP address when a router is in between.
Also, on the LAN, the caller ID (I'm using VoipBuster) was not shown on the receiving computer

Jan 2:04 AM, April 8, 2007

Hello,

I have Siemens s450 ip since 4 month and I very happy with it but I have one question ? Is it possible to change the sip provider from the phone. I have voipbuster and voipcheat but I can only change ot in the base with the computer.

The only provider that I can change from the phone are from same countries already in but not the ones that I put by my self

Samebody have a solution to change the sip providers from the phone ?

Thanks

Juan

JUan 10:09 PM, April 8, 2007

Loic,

You can buy a C455IP, it has the S450 firmware (VoIP multi-line) and an answering machine (30 minutes).

You will have C45 instead of S45 handsets.

Emmanuel 9:33 AM, April 10, 2007

Hi Jan,

I'm not sure to understand what you're trying to do...
Could you try to explain a little bit more your issue ?

Nicolas 11:22 AM, April 12, 2007

Hi

I'm not very technical and I just wanted to know if the C455IP can be used with Skype.

Can anyone help?

Hello Nicolas,

I like to call my daughter for free using my IP phone. She has a laptop connected to a router, so with a local IP address. She can call me directly now using SJPhone, because my IP phone has a sip address (from VoipBuster).
But I don't know how to call her. Unfortunately the Siemens S450 IP does now allow sip addresses to be used (perhaps an idea for a future update?), just IP addresses. Of course I cannot use the local IP address, but when I use the external IP address, SJPhone does not react.
In some way I think I need to redirect my call through the router to her laptop. How should I do that ?

I was able to call using an IP address in my local network (192*168*123*110) from one machine to another. In that case the receiving side did not show the caller ID. Is there a possibility for that to happen?

Thanks,
Jan

Hi All,

When will the S450 IP be available in the Greece?

Thanks.

Christos 12:09 PM, April 16, 2007

Hi Christos,

I will check!

Moritz 3:05 PM, April 16, 2007

Hi Christos,

Yes, it is available in Greece, but not in the big stores (Plaisio, Germanos, etc). You can only get it from online places like www.skroutz.gr. That's where I got mine from.

Hi Moritz,
is there any possibility to talk to you in private? I have some Ideas for useful features.

I also might visit you in Munich... FSC is about two blocks away from my flat ;)

Danke schon mal im Voraus

Thanks Yannos ,

Is Greek one of the 19 Menu Langauges ?

Christos 11:23 AM, April 17, 2007

Hi All,

Where can I find a list of 19 menu languages for S450?

Which languages are missing comparing to 22 menu languages in C455 ?

Thanks.

AndyMo 2:57 PM, April 20, 2007

It's a pitty klicktel (integrated directory service) does not work here in Switzerland :-) Anyway, what would be really cool is the inverse of it:

When somebody calls my phone, it could look up the number and also displays the Name/Company of the calling party, if the number is not in my phonebook already!

This would be a really cool feature!

I am looking to buy the C455 phone but it is not available in the US. I am intending to use this phone in India.
Is there a way I can buy it someplace in EU and have it shipped to India?

Hi Swami,
do you want to buy the C455 or the C455 IP?

Moritz 10:47 AM, April 27, 2007

I just accepted firmware upgrade for my c460ip.. and now it doesnt work.

when i call the house now from mobile i get engaged tone.
is there a way to totally reset the base unit?

please email me if you know anything,.

paul carson 10:53 AM, May 4, 2007

Hi,

a few weeks ago I bought the S450IP to be used together with IPness (Belgium). VoIP calls work great to other IPness users, as do incomming calls (VoiP and POT). When I try to call out to a normal or mobile phone over VoiP, I don't hear the caller for the first 5 till 10 seconds. The other side however hears me perfectly often resulting in hanging up the phone by them ;-(.
When I use a DLink solution for the same test, all works fine.
A colleague has the same S450IP with the same test result.
(Last firmware: 020610000000/041.00, EEprom: 93, Codec: G729, no STUN used)

Is there a solution for this?

Will there be a E450 IP? Is there any difference between the S45 and the E45, besides the body of the phone?

Ralf 5:12 PM, May 23, 2007

Any hints on the C455 IP (swiss version) on two issues:
- How to get french voice interface for configuring and listening the answering machine
- How to activate a mute function where the build-in micorphone is muted whilst being able to listen what is said at the other end (seems to be a missing feature on all my diverse Siemens phones)

Nicolas Schobinger 1:01 PM, May 26, 2007

Hi,

I've bought my S450-IP in www.onedirect.pt. It works great for outgoing voip calls, clear and loud sound. I've registred with Netcal (www.netcall.pt) a portuguese voip provider, which provides a phone number available from PSTN.

However with the S450-IP I am unable to take calls from any source other than Netcall. I've asked them for support and through traces they've found out that the S450-IP sends an incompatible signal when picking up the phone, but maybe they'd be able to accomodate that from their software's side.

So far they have been unable to. Siemens support has been less than helpful; they claim they are not obliged to provide any support because S450-IP is not sold in Portugal. I find it strange because the sip protocol is the same everywhere, and besides the EU is a common market and the place of purchase should never be used as an excuse to deny consummer rights.

When is new firmware relesed that might address this issue?

Alexandre Salvador 1:06 PM, May 27, 2007

Hello, can anyone tell me how to import an outlook adressbook in the S450IP ? I tried excell and other formats but always get the same error (error on line 1)...Thanks!

Gabrie 3:45 PM, May 28, 2007

Hello,

I have an annoying problem with all my C455IP (same firmware as S450IP).

I have now 6 sips accounts defined on them and there are working well. But after few days, some of the defined account stop registering with SIP provider (my Asterisk IP PBX). The problem exists with firmware 02057, 02059 and 02061. I've reproduced it many times. The only way to "solve the problem" is to reboot (unplug & plug) the C455 IP base.

The C450IP (firmware 01059 and 01061) doesn't have this problem.

Is there any forum dedicated to support (something like "Nokia Discussions Support") ?

Thanks.

Manu 12:38 AM, May 29, 2007

Hi Manu,

I have registred my S450-IP with 3 VOIP internet providers; in three separate occasions it happened that all of them suddenly stopped registering; in my case a power-cycle to the base didn't solve the problem; connectivity to the firmware update server and Gigaset Voip had also been lost. Only a router reboot solved the problem.

The strange thing was that PCs behind the same router didn't experience any loss of connectivity, and even the Voip Buster soft client in a PC could register ok before the router reboot.

Regards
A.Salvador

Alexandre Salvador 10:24 AM, May 29, 2007

Hi Salvador, Manu,

Unfortunately I have the same problem but with C455IP. I have two accounts and only the first one registered is working fine. The second one is just dead. I was told it can be helped by shutting down the firewall. It should be due to various ports used by the C455IP. But this did not work in my case.

All I know is that now I have firmware 02061 and that is what it caused. When I was using it with the original firmware it was shipped everything worked perfect. The hotline guy told me that the firmware can not be downgraded. But anyway, I have no idea what firmware I had there before the upgrade.

Any help is appreciated.

Andy

Andy 11:13 PM, May 31, 2007

same problem as paul carson. S450IP with SIP account on free.fr
I often have to try several times to get the call OK. The party on the other side is often upset by the fact that he has to answer several times, even if he can hear perfectly. I also noticed a loss of provider registration about every 24h, but this might be due to free.fr
Needless to say, I have not found any solution yet.

p.s. a real dialing plan setup would be a very much useful feature for any firmware update.

emr 6:42 PM, June 6, 2007

Can take calls now!

Thanks to the people of portuguese Voip provider Netcall, I can now take calls from any source. After some traces, they were able to customize their own server software in my benefit (!) - and that of any gigaset user!

So thank you Netcall (and no thanks to Siemens support who have been totally unsupportive)!

Regards to all

Installed an S450 IP two days ago. Several comments/questions:

1. Need to have ability to define DTMF handling on a per-line basis, not globally. Free.fr requires 'Audio' and nothing else enabled or it will not work; Vonage requires 'SIP' and/or the RFC feature enabled. Thus, I have to choose whether DTMF will work with Free or Vonage, but not both

2. I paired two E45 handsets to the S450 IP base. I have the displays set to show the clock... unlike when they were paired with the E450 base, the display changes every minute or two and shows the name of the handset, then goes back to the clock display. Why does it do this?

3. Is there any way to gain access to a logfile to debug SIP issues (or indeed, if the changing display described above is related to some kind of problem)? The web interface is pretty basic...

4. If I do want to report a bug or feature request, where is the best place to do so where someone will actually read it? ;^)

This is a good product with a lot of potential for market leadership if Siemens can stay on top of the bugs that the early adopters will no doubt discover.

Cheers,

richard.

Andy and other free users,

Sorry my english is so poor. For not loss provider registration every 24h it is necessary to set random port ("port aléatoire" to yes in web interface (phone/paramètres avancées).

LIENERE 11:07 PM, June 13, 2007

I have just taken delivery of two S450IP basestations and 2 extra handset and am so disappointed.

I was told by the sales rep that 6 concurrent calls were possible. It's actually only possible to make 2 even with 6 handsets.

On Asterisk 1.2, the phones simply did not work reliably, they disconnected every 5 mins and were never available for incoming calls again.

I stripped the box and installed Asterisk 1.4 and now they never seem to hangup until they unregister after 5 mins.

Connecting directly to voip.co.uk, the same symptoms persist. They deregister intermittently every few minutes - only way to re-register is to make a call.

The build quality is poor and the screen is so soft I have scratched one already.

Both base stations behave the same way.

The handset response time is terrible, sometimes you'll wait 10 seconds for anything to happen. After hanging up, you cannot make another call until the handset decides you can.

I was hoping that the S450IP would be a good alternative to Digium cards on Asterisk, but they just don't work.

the website is so scant and to hardly even warrant a visit.

They are not suitable for business use or for staff that aren't gadget freaks. Shame Siemens did such a bad job on a product that showed so much promise.

David 5:54 PM, June 14, 2007

It was impossible to suscribe older (non Siemens) Gap handsets on the S450IP base. Now the solution:
1. download latest firmware
2. start to subscribe the oldest handset and be sure to also choise the correct number on the handset! (the oldies go up from number 1-4)
3. The newer handsets can regiser as 5 or 6

Works fine now with Premier and fancy brand DECT!
The base will even work together with the old Siemens 3000 (phone book send) and will "translate" FSK caller ID to the CLIP DTMF of the 3000

Richard (Netherlands) 11:18 PM, June 15, 2007

Just wondering if/when the C450IP will be available in the US? I know the question was asked before, but I didn't see any further information through the blog. Thanks.

Hello everyone !!

I am planning to buy this phone, however, I still have one little question:
is it somehow possible to have call routed either to the PSTN or the VoIP line depending on the phone number called ??

For instance, let's say I want to have all the numbers starting by 06 (mobile N° in france) routed to the PSTN line and all the others routed to the default VoIP line: is it possible to obtain such a behaviour ???

Also, I've found that the firmware is freely available on siemens' website: so in case the function described here-above is not implemented, does anyone know if there is any way to rewrite part of the firmware to get the desired functions ??

Thanks,

Federico C.

Federico 6:28 PM, June 19, 2007

Hello,

I already own a S445 base station with 2 S440 and 2 S450 handsets and I would like to know if those handsets can work with the S450 IP base station. And if so, can they work with 2 different SIP accounts and one fixed line? (Do they need to be upgraded in order to do that).

In addition, I have a M34 USB adapter that I use with Skype and I would like to know if it will work with a S450 IP base station.
(or if the base station/phones can be configured to use Skype + 1 VoIP provider + POTS at the same time)

Thanks for you answers!

Fred 12:41 PM, June 24, 2007

Hi Fred,
congratulations you wrote the 100th comment on this article! You will be rewarded by Siemens Gigaset! In regard to your written comment your price will be a Siemens Gigaset S450 IP as this is an article about the S450 IP & you said you already have a S445 and seem to think about buying a S450 IP. I guess the S450 IP is a nice present for you in this regard...;)

In my content managment system I can see that you do have a French email adress. Do you want me to send you a French version of the S450 IP? Or another country version? Please tell me & send me your shipping details to this mail: info@gigaset-blog.com.

In regard to your questions:
Your old handsets will work with the S450 IP that's for sure. After you received the S450 IP please be kind and share the answers to your questions (SIP accounts/fixed line, Skype) with us on this blog...:)

Moritz 5:29 PM, June 25, 2007

Wow!!

You've made me very very happy! I can't believe I've won this phone! I've just sent you an email with my contact details. I will share my answers as soon as I get this phone and test it!!

Thanks again!

Fred 10:29 AM, June 26, 2007

Ohhhh....

So nice to see that Siemens takes care of its potential customers but lets the existing customers (those stupid enough to buy their hardware) standing in the cold wihout resolving their problems. Perhaps here are some other unsatisfied customers who want to send their hardware to Fred.

No thanks to Siemens ...

SO GIVE US A POSSIBILITY TO DOWNGRADE TO EARLIER FIRMWARE SO WE CAN HAVE A WORKING SYSTEM (S450IP) AGAIN !!!

Marcel.

Marcel 10:53 PM, June 27, 2007

Hi Marcel,
though I am not responsible for the release or development of any firmware for Siemens products I will try to help you. (Btw: I am also not "Siemens" but the webmaster of a weblog...)

Just to be clear. Your original post was this right?:

"Hi,
a few weeks ago I bought the S450IP to be used together with IPness (Belgium). VoIP calls work great to other IPness users, as do incomming calls (VoiP and POT). When I try to call out to a normal or mobile phone over VoiP, I don't hear the caller for the first 5 till 10 seconds. A colleague has the same S450IP with the same test result.
(Last firmware: 020610000000/041.00, EEprom: 93, Codec: G729, no STUN used)
Is there a solution for this?
Marcel"

If yes: Did you contact your local Siemens Gigaset customer care to find out if the problem is located within your (and your colleague's) configuration? For Belgium this would be:
http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,be_fr_0_21633_rArNrNrNrN,00.html
or:
http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,be_nl_0_21633_rArNrNrNrN,00.html

If those guys cannot help you I will contact product management.

Btw: "Siemens" takes care of all customers, also those who already possess products. Check e.g. here:
http://www.gigaset-blog.com/archive/2007/02/siemens_gigaset_se366_wlan.html

I think we will find a way to solve your problem as well.

Moritz 12:15 AM, June 28, 2007

Hi Moritz,

sorry I let it all out on you but after reading the same problem on several forums without any solution from Siemens, one gets a bit disappointed in this product. And if all those S450IP users have this problem, I don't think that customer care can help it.
I've used the Siemens 4175 ISDN for several years together with the old 4000 series handsets without any problems at all. Now I switched to VoIP since ISDN is to expensive here in Belgium, and we do most of our calls international. It worked fine in the beginning and than it all started. I hope you understand this feeling. Now I will look for a Fritz!box Fon 7170 to connect my old 4175 to. Another colleague tested this and it all works fine.

Thanks and sorry ...

Marcel 3:59 PM, June 28, 2007

Hi Marcel,
if you are still interested in using the S450 IP could you pls briefly write the crux of your problem. I will talk to the responsible product manager then.
Best,
moritz

Moritz 5:47 PM, June 28, 2007

Moritz,

VoIP calls work great to other VoIP (IPness) users, as do incomming calls (VoiP and POT). When I try to CALL OUT to a normal or mobile phone over VoiP, I don't hear the caller for the first 5 till 10 seconds. The other side however hears me perfectly often resulting in hanging up the phone by them ;-(.

The S450IP is connected to the internet over ADSL (Linksys AM200).

When I use a DLink DVG-2001S after this router connected to an analog phone, all works fine.

A colleague has the same S450IP with the same test result.
(Last firmware: 020610000000/041.00, EEprom: 93, Codec: G729, no STUN used)

Marcel.

Marcel 7:18 PM, June 28, 2007

Just a quick message to thank Siemens again now that I have received my S450 IP! I'm very happy with it and even more than I thought.

I have updated the firmware to the latest one and found that it exceeded my expectations.
It works fine with my VoIP provider (broadvoice) and even allows me to make 2 outgoing calls at once with the same account and with 2 different handsets (since I have conference calls and call waiting included in my plan). (And I can even make a third call with a third handset with my fixed line at the same time).

All my previous Siemens handsets work fine with it (S44 and S45). As for the M34 USB, it works but only when using a S44 handset to access it which is weird since I would have thought that the latest handsets would have been more compatible than older ones.

Anyway, I can do everything that I wanted with it and am more than happy with this product that I would recommend to anyone. Call quality is crystal clear!

thanks again Siemens!

Fred 11:39 AM, July 3, 2007

I have a C450 IP and the same problems many have using Asterisk PBX: the latest firmware is FULL of DAMNED BUGS!! And worst of all NO DOWNGRADE IS POSSIBLE!!!!! How can it be? Now we have only JUNK. We are risking to lose customers just because this damned phones are not working. We are so disappointed with Siemens that we will never buy anything from it unless they have more care about their products. If anybody knows how to downgrade the C450IP firmware please leave a message.

Giorgio 4:41 PM, July 3, 2007

Hi Marcel,
you got mail. Might be NAT problems. Pls give us feedback if this was helpful.

moritz 4:10 PM, July 4, 2007

Hi Fred,
very welcome:..:-)
Thx for your feedback!

moritz 4:11 PM, July 4, 2007

Hi Giorgio,
I am actually checking if there is a way to downgrade.

moritz 4:13 PM, July 4, 2007

Hi Guys,

Just got a new firmware ! Check it out.
Can't find any new feature...

Definitively no dial plan available !

Nicolas 9:33 PM, July 6, 2007

I updated the firmware this morning and since the update, all of my handsets (2 S44 and 3 S45) now work flawlessly with my M34 and Skype! (The S45 handsets didn't work with the M34 with the previous firmware).

I couldn't be happier with this product!

Fred 9:39 AM, July 7, 2007

Hi Marcel,

I have the same setup at home, a Gigaset S450IP and a standard analogue telephone with a D-Link DVG1000S, I also have problems with the Gigaset (outgoing calls - 10 seconds no audio), it is very annoying, I do not have that problem with the DVG1000S. I am connected to IPNESS too.
I have put an Asterisk PBX between them, when I call from the Gigaset tot the DVG1000S (using Asterisk), I don't have the problem with the audio. Does anyone have a solution for this problem ? I think it is codec related, I have tried practically all possible combinations...
One day I succeeded in configuring the Asterisk PBX so that I could dial out (Gigaset -> Asterisk -> IPNESS -> PSTN number) without the 10 second hickup, but unfortunately I lost that config...
Please help !

Today I recieved my second base station (s450 ip) in one week. I was able to use the first one untill I did a firmware update via de webinterface. After waiting for three hours I pulled the plug to reset the device. Resetting the device did'nt help i could not connect anymore to the web interface or with my phone to the base station. The Siemens Service Desk (Holland) asked me to return the base station and promissed me to send me a new one. Today I received my new base station. After installing it everything worked perfect.... untill. I did a firmware update via the phone. After waiting for half an hour i decided to call the support desk via my mobile phone. They simply asked me to return the base station again. Does any one have a smarte solution. I'm connected to the internet via ADSL. Thanks in advance

Is it possible to change the source port for the SIP sessions? I see that UDP port 5503 is used for all accounts I create. I was hoping to have more than one SIP account registered at the same server but can't due to the fixed UDP source port.

Not having this defeats the point of having the S450IP rather than the C450IP

As it did not work for me to post msgs on July, 19th; let me send again my suggestions for a future firmware upgrade:

- Being able to use 2 different SIP accounts on the same handset or all handsets (dialling one of them with "#" after the phone number for instance in order to use a second VoIP account)

- Being able to bridge a call from the fixed line to the VoIP line: it would be great if the basestation could answer the phone when and ONLY when a specific number is calling and then give the caller the option to either ring the handsets or be "bridged" to the VoIP line in order to dial out. This would, for instance, allow me to call home from my cell phone and then use my free VoIP international plan in order to call abroad for the price of a domestic call billed to my cell phone.
This can be done with a SIPURA 3000 and it would be great if it was added to this wonderful phone.

To comment Ellis' post from above: I have been using this phone with Broadvoice for a good 2 weeks now and it has been working flawlessly. There must be something wrong in the settings you entered. Are you using the latest firmware (I am), are you sure you configured the outbound proxy? I'd be happy to help you if you could provide me with the settings you're using.

Hi, I recently purchased an E450 and E45 extension as a replacement to my existing cordless phone. I use a Vonage VOIP adapter to make/receive phone calls. After replacing my old phone set with the E450/45, I am able to receive calls ok, but not able to make outgoing calls. I receive the dial tone, but the phone/base do not register any of my keystrokes (ie, the dial tone continues to persist).

Since my old setup worked with any other phone (through the Vonage adapter), I don't' believe I need to buy the "IP" version of this phone. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks.

Hello, I can not connect to my e-mail via the 450 ip phone. I use the right username & password (checked via an e-mail alert program like poptray) but the phone gives "unable to connect". makeing calls via voip works fine.

What could be the problem?

F. Alberts 12:05 AM, August 8, 2007

I've had my S450IP for a few days now, it's not the easiest thing to set up voip, but that's more down to router settings and the intricacies of SIP than the phone.

I worked out that adding #9 to a directory entry makes it dial via gigaset.net, is there a similar way to get the entry to dial via voip or the fixed line? I notice several people have asked for dialplan support, that would be great.

Page 8 of my manual has a section saying that pressing the left key during an external call will mute the call, however if I try this I get the INT menu, I think the manual is wrong.

I can see how telephony is going to go with this phone, great product.

Is the S450 IP available in Australia yet?

Luke 4:17 AM, August 11, 2007

Hi Neil and all,

using #0 for fixed-line and #1 to #6 for the VoIP accounts should work since Firmware 63

Catalonia 12:20 PM, August 11, 2007

Does the siemens Speedstream 6520 allow SIP. Is it compatible with the s450 IP? Any one in dubai - uae using it yet
?

Jack 11:15 PM, August 18, 2007

Hi Catalonia, Neil and all

I have a question about how this VoIP account changing using #1 to #6 is supposed to work. Do you append/prepend it to the phone numbers or to the names in the directory (with blanks between)? Does it only work using dialing from the directory or also when entering manually the pone numbers? I have a C455 IP, which as I understand uses the same firmware as the S450 IP. Firmware on my phone is updated to 63.

I really love the phone so far (had it for 2 days now), overall great product, easy to use and had a lot of nice features!

Firmware version: 020700000000 / 038.00

Has Siemens issued a downgrade? I thought I hade a higher fw a couple of weeks ago.

And I also wonder if anyone has got the VOIP account switching working?

Jan 9:44 PM, August 29, 2007

I have a few Siemens S450 IP phones and Asterisk 1.4.
As Vincent noted, I have a 10 second hickup with outgoing calls, right after the other person picks up there phone. Incoming calls work fine, and outgoing calls from other sip phones work as well. Very anoying! Does anyone have this working?

10 second delay resolved for us

Having a C460 already and being happy with it (thanks perhaps to old firmware :) ), we just received an S450 and extra handsets. As well as the LCD on the S45 extra handsets having an inferior appearance when compared to the base station handset, so that the viewing angle and illumination is poor in comparison (even though they should be the same builds), we too had the incoming audio delay via Asterisk on outgoing calls. Before we returned them as not fit for purpose, we thought that we should investigate this ourselves, and have found a solution that works well for us.

We have documented our solution and hope this helps others.

Good luck.

Hello every body

This seems a very interesting discussion, eveni cant pick up half of what is said, because i'm not much of a geek,

I'm here as i'm quite hesitating to buy a S450 IP or C455 IP or an S 675 IP. The latter two have my favor because of the integrated answering machine, as my wife quite likes to have a single voice answering system instead of one for each line (PSTN and DSL) and also finds it a bit tedious to play with the telecom or DSL provider's answering system...

My problem is the C455 IP seems to have a "cheap" phone compared to that of the S 450 IP, and that the S 675 seems to have extra features (HSDSP or something like it) that may be of no use in france, and doesn't yet seem to be sold by the way and I don't know if it can be set to french if i attemp to buy it directly in germany...

Hos should one rate this last phone by the way as I have been able to trace it here on a separate dialog... ?

Could any one briefly comment on the pros or cons of each phone.

Thanks

Nick

Hi all, I have emailed siemens twice now asking when the c455 ip will be available in the UK. Still waiting for them to reply. If this is pre-sales support, I dread to think how bad post sales support would be. Guys, I am looking for a phone with multi-sip account, dial plan, dect and an answering m/c. Any competition to Siemens worth looking at?

Grumpy Dave 2:55 AM, September 4, 2007

Cannot get S450 IP with multiple handsets to accept more than 1 incoming call at a time

Our VOIP provider is Voipfone and we have high bandwidth into the office. Everything seems to be configured correctly but if both of us in our office simultaneously ring our handsets (from our mobiles), one call is accepted properly, the other just goes dead. Is there any solution? Any help much appreciated.

Any word on when the S450 IP will be in the US?

Mark 6:30 PM, September 8, 2007

Interesting site. I am planning on buying this phone but I need to confirm 2 things before I purchase this phone

1) Does it now allow multiple lines from various voip providers i.e. say I have voipbuster and sipgate. Can I have both accounts working at the same time on the phone?

2) I am interested in having a voicemail machine. My options are the C455 IP and the S 675 IP

Does the C455 support Jabber ?

Where can I get the S675 IP cant find it anywhere except on German sites that dont ship outside Germany. I have an address both in FR and the UK

3) Is anyone here using any of the phones on Free.fr and have they encountered any probs

Cheers for your help in adv

CHIB

Chib 5:43 PM, September 11, 2007

Hello CHIB

As you may have understood, i share some of your questions, but have additional information on the sites where one can find the S675 IP :
- if you read german, try amazon.de, but i don't know about shipping in Europe
- if you want a french or english speaking german vendor try http://www.technikdirekt.de/main/fr/telecom/festnetz/telefone-schnurlos/183176/-/Article.html
the only problem is that i haven't been able to make out for sure if their S675 IP can be set up to display and also speak (for the phone answering messages) in French... My only hope comes from the fact the technical documentation has just been released in French and English and that they show how to set the menu langages. The second draw back is that it doesn't seem to be immediatly available (kind of pre order).

Speaking of the jabber use, S450 IP, C455IP, S675 IP all seem to have the opportunity to access it if you read their documentation, and also have in parallel multi SIP profiles.

On the freephonie web site they advocate the S450 IP is an excellent phone for free.fr.

To bad, the handset, that ships with the S450 IP is not supported for the new Gigaset.net features (like the new weather forecast)...

Kusmi 9:28 AM, September 12, 2007

Hi all !!!

New firmware this morning ! Santa Claus has come !
FW 020810000000 / 038.00 EEPROM 103

What's new ? Hey Siemens did hear us ! Suffix calls for any SIP account...and...and....sort of dial plan. I don't know if some sort of wildcard is accepted (like 06*), but we could add many phone numbers, and define which account to use !

Hey Mortitz ! I love your blog ;-)

The bad news : Kusmi told us. S45 handset doesn't seem to support gigaset.net new features. Web interface talk about S67H ??? There's no S67 on Siemens catalog....
Maybe a good news on the next firmware...

Nicolas

Nicolas 10:35 AM, September 12, 2007

Hey Nicolas,
I luv your comments as well...;-)

Good to hear that you are happy with the FW. By way of exception once...;)

@Kusmi & all: Yeah I know this is very annoying. But there might be a way to make the S450 IP work with the new gigaset.net features. But I have to test/ check first! If you connect the S450 IP with the SL37H or the S67H the feature might work. But I have to check first! Will let u know...

Moritz 11:25 AM, September 12, 2007

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply. It has helped me in getting a bit more insight into the gigaset range but I have got one more question. In your post you said you were not sure if

"S675 IP can be set up to display and also speak (for the phone answering messages) in French".

I am actually interested in English do you know if it can be seTup to display in the menu in English. Not to worried about voicemail cos I could always setup my own OGM.

Cheers

One more thing I forgot to add to my previous post is on the link you sent there a message under the description that tell us special features are only compatible with German telephone networks. What are these special features?

from technikdirect
DESCRIPTION

- The special features of this phone/answering machine can only be used in the german telephone network.

Sorry for all these random questions just need to be sure of things before spending 75 quid on the phone.

Chib

Anonymous 4:44 PM, September 12, 2007

Moritz,

In french we call this "qui aime bien châtie bien".

Ok. Now, few new suggestions for your engineering (I told you you should give me a contract to help you ;-) ) :
- a dial plan with simple wildcard like "every number which begin with"
- when on call, ring the others handset AND put a beep on the busy handset in any case.
- Keep the name sent my telecom provider (CLIP) in the log

Nicolas 6:29 PM, September 12, 2007

LO again CHIB

I already asked your questions to the TechnikDirect guys via mail and they gave a vague answer saying they thought some of the features may only work in Germany but couldn't say which one, and that they posted the advice just in case.

To my guess it may be HDDSP or SMSs or anything of the kind which may not be available on the PSTN line, depending on your national opertor.

They also said the interface language couldn't be changed, which is NOT what the documentation points out. Note the documentation available on line on the siemens pages is also in English. But does not speak of the answering machine message languages (at least the time and date stamp and I guess service messages giving your message count and caller)

Note on the Siemens Web page http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,hq_en_0_139193_rArNrNrNrN_variation%253A-5_pageType%253ATechnical%2Bdata_imagePos%253A0,00.html#content you can read : Multilingual menu User guidance in up to 20 languages (partly available)

As a summary, I have little doubt about the ability to use a full fledged SL675 IP in English, once the phone is shipped internationally. But I would dread to have one of the first phones which might be completely specific to germany (as they speak of "partially available"). Note this is a brand new product first shipped in August...

After the software update today I have been having some problems with calls cutting off, (Fixed Line) seam to do it periodically after 1min or so... disabled the new info services and it appears to have solved the problem. it looked like the base station was rebooting periodically....

(why is this shown in the web configurator for the S450 IP as the handsets dont support the service ?)

Moritz 1:11 PM, September 13, 2007

Thank Nicolas once again.

I am a bit in of a dilema. I decided not to go for the S675 IP.I just not too happy with the info My other option is the C455 IP because it's got voicemail but I m not too keen on the Cxxx phones.I want a larger screen.

Is there a way of mixing and matching base units and phones i.e. buy a base unit and handset seperately ?Or do I just buy a package with a base that's got voicemail and then change handsets. Looks like an expensive way to do things.

Anonymous 3:16 PM, September 13, 2007

Hi CHIB

Seems I'm still sticking to the S675IP but going to wait for a while to see how things settle down.

I think you'd better do the same, e;g. hang around a while ... because I believe the C455 IP has no upwards compatibility regarding phones. You have a "cheap" phone shipped with it and cannot consider the other ones as accessories. You can't hope to buy a better phone aside.

Only the S765IP has a broad set of phones ranging from the C45 to the C54 and the S67 and another one which I forget (but is bluetooth I think).

Just a pitty Siemens can't give a hint on the level of internationalisation of the phone saled in Germany !

By the way, are you familiar enough with german to understand if Amazon.de ships elsewhere to Europe ?

Regards

Nick

Auld Nick 3:55 PM, September 13, 2007

Hi Nick

Cheers for your quick repsonse.

There is an english section in a corner somewhere on amazon.de that says they do not ship electronics outside Germany and Austria. This also applied to some other sites I could find on pricerunner that sold the phone.

The only option I have is the technikdirect link which you sent and it is the cheapest so far.

Beware of the latest software upgrade for the Siemens S450IP (Firmware version: 020810000000 / 038.00, EEPROM version: 103), after upgrading the phones loose registration with the sip server (asterisk 1.2.23), and fills up my logfile with the following error code:

-- Got SIP response 415 "Unsupported Media Type" back from 172.16.242.66

zaphodb AT nospam.beeblebroxindustries.com

I guess I will have to rely on my other SIP fones until Siemens either gives me a copy of the old firmware or a new one that fixes the problem.

Anonymous 5:25 PM, September 13, 2007

Another suggestion (all these came from the real life with a real family :) ) : an option to allow a fallback to VoIP line when PSTN is busy. In clear if someone is trying to make an outbound call and PSTN line is busy, make the call automatically on VoIP line.

Nicolas 5:36 PM, September 13, 2007

Sometimes I get this message when trying to call an extension in the Siemens S450IP:

-- Called 5506
-- Got SIP response 481 "Call Leg/Transaction Does Not Exist" back from 172.16.242.66

Even though 5506 appears to be registered:
5508/5508 172.16.242.66 D 5060 OK (34 ms)
5507/5507 172.16.242.66 D 5060 OK (58 ms)

In the mean time I am looking at other alternatives. Is it advisable to go for the S450 IP . If I do get one I would have to get an external answering machine.

Dear Chib,

the german telephones are only with german language.
No special features work outside of germany. You can only make phonecalls.
We deliver it to france if you want, the shippingcosts are 22,- €.

Anonymous 9:16 AM, September 14, 2007

Hi CHIB

Definately, we are facing the same kind of surprising feedback from Technik Direkt : this S675IP phone and central unit is supposed to be essentially for Germany....

It really does seem bizare to me that Siemens should make specific phones separatly for Germany and for the rest of the World when they advocate (limited) international features.

It would be great if some authorized person from Siemens commented on this and also gave a hint on how long it takes Siemens to ship a new phone to the rest of the world, independantly of any local negociation with retailers of course !

Ahoy there... Anybody on board ?

Cheers

Nick

Auld Nick 10:38 AM, September 14, 2007

There is something else not compatible in Italy.
*37# to hide the number.
In Italy we have *65#.
Will be there a possibility to custom the feature in order to use that in Italy?

Leo 11:25 AM, September 14, 2007

Hi Moritz

These may have been asked for before, but some nice to have features would be:

* Call barring for specified numbers. An optional fixed or preferably recordable message would be a bonus
* Call forward from PSTN to VoIP number on specified conditions, such as busy, no answer, always, and for specific numbers. This would be particularly useful where the VoIP number is an internal extension that's handled by Asterisk, permitting, for example, logic based on caller ID or the time of the day.

Nick

Nick Lindridge 2:40 PM, September 14, 2007

Missing "access code" function for pabx to access external line. There is no way to make a call easly if there is a pabx. For example, if you have to use 0 to access the external line, if you digit 0 before the phone number, you got no pause after the 0.
Example: phone number 0123456. You digit 00123456. You get a wrong call because the phone misses some digits after the first 0. The only way is to put a "p" (pressing "r" for some seconds) after the first 0.
Siemens, what are you doing?!?!?!?!

Well..just found on gigaset.siemens.com there's a "C455IP S450IP Online update" guide. And then discovered our phone has won a REAL dialplan. quoting :

- You can define the connection (...) via which calss to specific numbers should be made and paid for. If you enter just a few digits (e.g. local area, national or mobile network code), any call to a number beginning with these digits will be made via the selected connection.

YES ! That's not Sipura complicated dial plan, but it sufficient to let my family forget how they should dial...they only have to put their phone number on the handset and push "call".

There is progress for the S675 IP ....

Siemens has also created a blog entry
http://www.gigaset-blog.com/archive/2007/09/siemens_gigaset_s675_ip.html

Just need to keep watching....

Auld Nick 12:48 PM, September 18, 2007

Just installed an S450IP, hooked it up to an analogue line of our pabx (3070isdn) and our network operator (Voipbuster).

To get an external line on the 3070isdn you're required to use an extra leading 0 when dialing. I can't find a easy way to configure the S450IP to automatically add the extra leading 0 to the number dialed if routed to the analogue line... any tips will be appreciated.

Not having the system adding the leading 0 to a dialed number automatically makes phone book entries useless if they need to be routed differently. The fixed pre-configured dial plan numbers of the S450IP (112 and 09008844, Netherlands) are, at best, useless in our setup.

I hope I'm overseeing a setting in the web configuration tool. If not, I hope Siemens will have such a setting in a next update soon.

Jurgen 1:47 PM, September 18, 2007

Exactly the same problem as Jurgen. On old siemens cordless there were a useful option called "external code" or something (in italian "cod. linea est."). But nothing in new models. Why?!?!?!

ginopilotino 5:21 PM, September 18, 2007

I've had an S450IP with an extra handset for a couple of months now - very pleased with it.
I would like to set one handset to default to the landline for dialling out and the other to VOIP. It seems that when I set it up on one handset it defaults the other handset to the same, which is annoying. Am I missing something obvious?

Daragh 5:18 PM, September 20, 2007

Once the S450 IP gets to the US, we will need the ability to list multiple local area codes. Many local dialing areas involve more than one area code. When a call comes in and the caller ID is not from one of your local area codes, the phone will need to know to preappend a 1 in fron of the 10 digit numbers when calling from the missed calls list.

I would also like to see a mute button. Currently there is no mute button what will silence the microphone but still allow you to here the person(s) on the call. I participate in a lot of conference calls and like to be able to mute my micorphone until it's my turn to speak.

However the phone is not working reliably - I get loads of 403 and 701 errors returned when dialling out and calls often get cut off after just a few minutes. Does anyone have advice on resolving these problems?

Martin Cook 1:47 PM, September 30, 2007

Is there any place for bugs report ?

Two importants bugs in last firmware (02081) :

1- If you use "R" key during an IP phone Call, the "R" is sent to analog line AND to IP phone call (instead of IP phone call only)

2- From time to time, the Gigaset Base accept only one VoIP call (instead of two simultaneous)

Thanks

I have the Swiss version of the S450 IP (Aton). However, the automatic firmware download function does not report a new firmware release even though it has an older version installed. The URL where the phone would look for a new version is gaset.siemens.com/chagall.

Would anybody know what goes wrong here? Is there any way to download the firmware manually and install it manually?

Thanks,
