Perfect Control - Siemens Gigaset HC450

200602_siemensgigasetHC450.jpg

Gigaset Home Control is a simple and cost-efficent system system for the control of all your household appliances. Siemens has enhaced its established cordless phones. Now they serve as an open platform for manufacturers producing goods for in and around the house. But Siemens Gigaset itself also offers own products like the HC450 IP.

The Siemens Gigaset HC450 intercom is an intelligent yet simple way to control an entrance intercom with a Gigaset cordless phone. At the touch of a button, users can speak to visitors standing at the front door, open the door and even switch on the light.

The new Gigaset HC450 intercom offers real benefits to residents of single-family and duplex homes, as it allows them to speak to visitors using their cordless phone from anywhere within the house. Running to answer the front door is now a thing of the past, by simply pressing a button on a Gigaset cordless phone the door can be opened. With call forwarding all these functions can also be used remotely from a mobile phone, for example to let the cleaning lady in or to ask the postman to leave a package with a neighbor. The DECT wireless standard ensures a secure and stable connection to the intercom in the same way as it does to all cordless phones in the home.

Wow ! Great innovation !

Think to imagine HC452...same thing but for two doors.

Nicolas 11:23 PM, February 27, 2007

Hi Nicolas,

2 Doors, 2 HC450 - where is the problem? I have none!

I named my devices "Door1" and "Door2" instead of the standard-name "Intercom" and it works great.

Does anyone know of a UK based retailer of this product?

TIA

Hi Nigel,

I will check on Monday. Nice WE to everyone...;)

Moritz 7:30 PM, March 9, 2007

Hi W,

Sure I thougth to this solutions. But 2 HC450 means 2 DECT "handsets" registered. And I'm pretty sure that Siemens will invent many, many new usages for DECT devices.

Nicolas 9:22 PM, March 9, 2007

Another argument to have some HC45x delivered with 2 doors "interface" : the price ! I've checked on the net : more than 300 euros for one HC450.
Please think of a new HC45x with 2 doors interfaces.

Nicolas 7:34 PM, March 10, 2007

Hi Nicolas,

I will forward your proposal to the Siemens product manager for the Siemens Gigaset HC450. Let's see...

A few months ago, I researched on the internet for a phone solution and liked the gigaset SX353 very much.
At that time HC450 was listed as an accessory and got me very excited, so 3 weeks ago I purchased this combo, only to find that the SX353 is not listed in the HC450 manual as a compatible device.

Any advice/info so i can find a solution? The HC450 does not connect to my SX353 or even to an E450 that I also own.

Brilliant concept btw, I would love to have it working.

PS. I bought the HC450 for 215 euro so prices are more appropriate now

Marios 11:02 AM, June 22, 2007

Hi,

Im finding it hard to find out where i can buy the HC450 unit, perhaps Moritz you could let me know where you bought yours €215 seems like a good price

Thanks
Brian

Brian Martin 10:34 AM, July 13, 2007

Hi Brian,
in what country do you want to buy the HC450?

Moritz 1:57 PM, July 13, 2007

Hi Brian, the Blog here puts the name on the bottom of the post so, I am the one who bought the HC450, alas i was wrong and the price is 231€. Use the link below to get to the e-shop i used.

Marios

PS. I can now connect the HC450 to my E450 but when I press the door bell the handset does not ring. I can open the door if I go through the menus. Any ideas Moritz?

Maybe u can ask the engineers to make the HC450 compatible with the SX353 via a Bios update, I would really love that.

Marios 4:03 PM, July 16, 2007

Hi Marios,
thx for your support...;)

Your questions: Did you already contact Customer Care for your 2 issues?

Moritz 2:50 PM, July 17, 2007

Moritz, suddenly all worked fine between my HC450 & E450.
I guess they needed to know each other for a while, before they could cooperate! ;-)

Still, connecting the HC450 to my SX353 is the ideal solution as at the moment I have 2 extra handsets tied up as door answering devices only.
Any feedback from the developers? Can we hope for solution in the future?

Cheers
Marios

Marios 5:16 PM, July 26, 2007

Hi Marios,

:-)

HC450 & SX353: As we are talking about a corded phone here I am sorry to disappoint you but this will not be possible, also not in the future...:(

Sry you have to use your handsets for that...

Moritz 10:14 AM, July 30, 2007

Well Moritz, I guess i was not precise i my info.

The SX353 is an ISDN wired station accepting as many as 8 Dect handsets. I have chosen the E45 as cordless handset and I have 3 of those.

When connect my HC450 on the SX353, it does connect as any DECT device should, alas it does not bring the door interface when I connect to the door.

To me this seems like an insignificant glitch in the way the SX353 is handling the DECT protocol and something that potentially is easy to resolve.

Using the HC450 from the handsets only, if those are in the compatible list is quite OK, in my opinion and a great solution for my small business office.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Marios 3:42 PM, July 30, 2007

>it does not bring the door interface when I connect to the door.

I meant in the E45 handset when the HC450 is connected in the SX353 base station. It does work when the HC450 is connected in the E450 base station.

Could it be that they need to know each other for some time as well ;).

The problem is that I can not try this as I will lose the door opening function. I will leave the HC450 connected on the SX353 next weekend and I hope it will work.

Marios 3:48 PM, July 30, 2007

Hi Marios,

I understand your problem. If you use the E45 only as a handset of your SX353 basestation this of course will not work (list of all basestations that are compatible: http://gigaset.siemens.com/shc/0,1935,hq_en_0_134353_rArNrNrNrN_variation%253A-5_pageType%253Aproducts_imagePos%253A0,00.html )

As you noted yourself: If you use the basestation of the E45 (=E450) the HC450 will work!

But I also understand that you what to keep your SX353 & E45 handsets, which does not work with the HC450...;)

What I can do for you: I will contact product management if there is a way to connect the SX353 to the HC450 via a FW update or whatever...Let's see what they say...Keep in contact!

Moritz 11:51 AM, July 31, 2007

Moritz!

That is perfect! I hope they will respond favorably.

Thank you

Marios 4:59 PM, August 1, 2007

I'd love to see this available in 120V version. Does anyone know if this is available and if so, where I can get it?

Jeff Lines 9:47 PM, August 12, 2007

I am having a hard time finding this unit for sale by a US retailer. Can you direct me to any US retailers selling this unit online? It is the perfect upgrade for my home. Also which base/handset models do you most recommend or is most popular? I haven't found any of the higher end models in the US either just the S450/S455

CJ 4:07 PM, August 17, 2007

I am living in France, do you know where i could buy a device hc 450.
By internet in belgium, for exemple, or anywhere else.
Thanks

Jean Claude 9:30 AM, August 25, 2007

Looking at the manual, it would appear that this could be used in USA market by simply replacing the power supply unit with one has the same output voltage and amp ratings.
In addition, the door light connection appears like it is simply a relay type of connection. This would mean that you would also be able to add a wired or wireless sensor to the connection that would send a signal to a home control system to control like a lighting scene. The manual doesn't mention this, but if that is indeed possible, it would be an additional capability/feature that could be marketed.
Looks like it would be a great product to tie into my e450 phone system. Look forward to USA availability. I'd also be interested in doing beta test as well and testing ability to tie to home lighting control system.

Jeff Lines 7:28 PM, August 27, 2007

"ability to tie to home lighting control system"

I use my C460 already to control home lighting, for example, pressing speed dial 0 on the phone by the bed shuts the whole house down when we need to do that in the evening. Having thrown away X10 for HA as it's useless for serious use, I implemented DMX instead (which also worked out cheaper), and developed lighting control software for DMX. The phones register with Asterisk, and we can then dial internal extensions from the phones to trigger a dialog between Asterisk and the lighting server.

Whatever your home automation system, having Asterisk to control it should be possible.

Nick Lindridge 4:22 PM, September 2, 2007

Nick,

fantastic advice for using Asterisk. Is the display customisable on the phone to make it wife-proof or are you suggesting having to physically dial int ext for triggering?

Cheers,
Ian.

I am having difficulty connecting the HC450 to my S675 base station and phone. Any Ideas? The base station will just not register the HC450. I only want to use it to answer the doorbell.

Fola 10:13 AM, November 19, 2007

hello,

I have a HC450 since a few months. I have a very annoying problem. The street where it is intalled is quite noisy and the people at the door cannot hear anything because the microphone is automatically shut down. The only way to hear smthg at the door is to put a finger on the microphone. Really not user)friendly. I contacted the customer service of siemens (Belgium) but they say they never heard about that (very difficult to get sthg from them). It seems like a bad "hands free" mode : impossible to have a full duplex communication when the outside is noisy.
Does anyone have the same problem or suggest a workaround??

Laurent 8:17 PM, January 22, 2008

i bought through multielectronics to South Africa and they delivered - you can use them with confidence

gbester 10:01 AM, January 27, 2008

I can't get the s450 ip to ring from a landline incomming call even though I can make both landline outgoing and voip echo tests . Ive also cant seem to deactivate call forwarding on the phone ( despite repeated attempts to do so ) even though call forwarding via the http web interface shows off . i can make int calls . what could be wrong ??
Could it be pstn compatability - Im using the phone on South African Network - maybe there is a setting that i need to change

Thanks
