Siemens has developed the new community Gigaset.net for worldwide IP telephony, which challenges Skype on the VoIP-market. With Gigaset.net, Siemens has created a community, in which millions of users can call each other via their IP-phones for free. Krister Backlund, head of marketing at Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices in Sweden, explains that calling via Gigaset.net is as easy as conventional telephony and the interest in it is already great. "The computer doesn't have to be switched on and neither headset nor USB-telephone is needed", he points out. There are currently two IP phones by Siemens on the market: the Gigaset S450 IP and the Gigaset C450 IP. Soon, the company will also launch the Gigaset CE460 IP R with integrated broadband router.
