Siemens Gigaset HC450 - The easiest way to welcome guests
Categories:

The new Siemens Gigaset HC450 intercom provides an intelligent and simple way of controlling an entrance intercom using a Gigaset cordless phone. Visitors are not only announced by the sound of the doorbell, but also via audio-visual alerts on every Gigaset handset in the house. At the touch of a button, users can speak to visitors standing at the front door, open the door and even switch on the light. Call forwarding also allows users to control these functions from a mobile phone. The intercom needs no special wiring and can replace the existing door bell using existing cabling. Registering the intercom with the Gigaset’s base station is as simple as registering an additional handset.

With the Siemens Gigaset HC450, rushing to greet visitors to your home becomes a thing of the past. The intercom enables individual residents to use their cordless phones to welcome visitors remotely. The door can even be opened with the Gigaset handset. With call forwarding these functions can be operated remotely from any mobile or external fixed line phone to, for example, ask a postman to leave a package with a neighbor or even grant access to the home in the resident's absence.

The intercom is easy to install as it does not require any re-wiring. The Gigaset HC450 is connected to an existing power line (two-core). Automatic door openers can also be connected to the system. The user then registers the intercom with the telephone base in the same way that they would an additional Gigaset handset. Use of the DECT wireless standard ensure the same type of secure and stable connection between the base and the intercom that is enjoyed by all cordless phones in the home.

When the door bell rings, the Gigaset cordless phone indicates this with a specific tone that is different to the sound heard before normal phone calls and shows “Doorbell” on the display. Intercom users can speak with or open the door to callers at the touch of a button. If no one is home, the call can be forwarded to a mobile or fixed line phone. A spoken message then indicates that the call is from a visitor standing at the front door. The user can decide if they want to answer the front door by pressing a button. This means users have the choice of whether or not to speak to visitors at the door.

Equipped with two separate bell buttons, the Gigaset HC450 allows linked phones to be configured separately. If, for example, a user has a handset in their home office and one in the house and the “office” button is pressed on the intercom, only the handset in the office will ring. Alternatively, the second button can be used for switching the entrance light on and off. These configurations are easily set using the Gigaset phone’s menu.

The Gigaset HC450 intercom costs 299.99 Euros and will be available in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Belgium , the Netherlands and Italy . The Gigaset SL550, SL560, S450, E450, S440, S645 and model variants with ISDN and/or answering machine functionality are all compatible with the intercom system.

Price is high, but a great idea. Visitors should be able to leave a message on your answering machine if your not home. Will it be available in the US?

Hi Moritz,

you seems to be the guy answering the blogs?? I already posted in 2 blogs here about a problem I encoutered using the HC450 (no sound at the door due to noise in the street).
Here, I want to talk about - I think- a serious security issue. It is really easy to open the door unit of the HC450, with a screwdriver. When done, it is easy to pull out the wire that unlockl the door command. Then, with a small 12volts energy cell, you can send the signal to open the door. Really quick and painful for a thief. I think that the door command should have been inside, near the dect unit. This is the way other doorunits work (I saw one like that). As far as I am concerned, I prefer to connect the door command to the "light" wiring, in the dect unit of the door phone. What do you thing about that? The problem in this cas is that you cannot use it with the external number (pin code).
Should it be possible to have a firmware where pin code give access to the "light" wiring, and not the "door commannd" wiring?

Hi Laurent,
well I a trying to help out from time to time. But the gigset-blog is not a moderated forum so I am answering questions only from time to time. In the best case your questions will be answered by other Gigaset users, which is already current method on this weblog.

But in your case it is a different issue. This is a security aspect and I am thankful for your input. I will forward your message to the responsible product manager and report about his statement!
Best
Moritz

Hi

Can the Siemens Gigaset HC 450 be used with two independent base stations? For example, in a two family house, I'd like to use one door station and DECT unit but allow the top button to be used for one family and the bottom button for the other family so they can independently speak to visitors and open the door.

Thanks
Mike

Hi,

Does anyone know if the HC450 works with any other ISDN + DECT/GAP compatible pabx? Its a pity that the HC450 does not (fully) work with the older Gigaset 417x and the SX25x base stations:(

I'm looking for a base station with ISDN, 3 answering machines and full HC450 (preferable 2x HC450) support.

Does anyone know if the SX25x will be replaced soon by a base station with HC450 support?

Thx!

Roger
