Siemens Gigaset S675 IP

20070916_s675IP.jpg
Hybrid phone with HDSP sound and weather service

The Siemens Gigaset S675 IP is now available from retailers. This cordless phone with integrated answering machine enables VoIP without a PC as well as fixed-line networks. High Definition Sound Performance (HDSP) assures that IP calls made over broadband have a quite nice voice quality.

Another feature included is a free IP-based weather service provided by MC-Wetter.

The phone works both on a fixed-line network and via the LAN port of a DSL router. The handset’s menu contains all the main VoIP providers and their configuration settings are loaded automatically at the touch of a button. Users only have to type their access data directly into the phone using the handset’s keypad. To change between Internet and fixed-line telephony all users need to do is press the green call key. Up to six handsets can be registered with the S675 IP’s base station, making VoIP telephony particularly easy in larger households. In parallel two internet calls and one fixed line call can be made at the same time. In addition six different VoIP profiles can be configured on these handsets.

Other features: Users in some countries can utilize an online directory and Gigaset.net which allows owners of Gigaset VoIP phones to call each other for free. Another new feature available is a complimentary weather service from MC-Wetter. Users can select their desired location on the website www.gigaset.net/myaccount/de , and receive up to date weather forecasts for that place on their home phone.

The Siemens Gigaset S675 IP is the first VoIP phone in the portfolio to offer the broadband voice transport technology, High Definition Sound Performance. HDSP provides twice the frequency range of conventional phones and offers crystal-clear sound with a frequency range very close to that of the human voice. However, both parties in a call must have an HDSP-capable phone to achieve this level of quality.

Great because I've been hopping around and reading every bit of the available documentation.

Noticing it has recently been translated into various languages, and hoping it will soon be sold in other countries, as it seems that even if the documentation explains how to change the menu languages, some settings (including the speach synthesis of the answering machine) are said to be specific to the country the product is sold in ?

Is my understanding right ?

And by the way, when is France scheduled ?

2 VoIP + 1 Fixed line calls in parallel. Great news.
Just waiting for S670 IP before buy it ;-)

Nicolas 2:51 PM, September 17, 2007

Even with this new model there is no way to set a pause automatically after a number to access external call in a pabx / pbx
It's incredible that siemens make a worst firmware for all new models.

ginopilotino 1:35 PM, September 18, 2007

Hi Nicolas,

Where did you buy your S675 IP from ?

OK, so where do I buy this in new york?

John R 7:12 PM, September 18, 2007

DOes this device support encryption...and where can I pick this up in NYC?

Matthew Mahon 10:00 PM, September 18, 2007

I bought the Gigaset 675IP with an additional handset via shoppingfever.de The equipment is configured for Germany (of course..). Will it be possiblke to download a Dutch language file and specific Dutch settings (like Dutch SMS centre)?

Thank you.

Tammo ter Hark 1:35 PM, September 23, 2007

can't get incoming calls on carpo. Others have same problems. With old Fritz!Box there is no problem. Possibly siemens has to do a lot of homework with the firmware.

Anonymous 12:09 AM, September 28, 2007

I'm interested in this DECT IP phone.

Is the C675 base the same as the C455 base ?

Manu 12:16 AM, October 1, 2007

I recently bought this phone, but cannot get it to work with Asterisk 1.2 properly... There is no sound coming in whatever i do. Calling over a fixed line is ok though.

Anyone experiencing something similar?

Does anyone have some news on the availability of this handset and box in foreign countries, especially France ?

Auld Nick 12:56 PM, October 16, 2007

Does anyone know when will this phone be available in the US? If so, where can I buy it and how much? Many thanks.

Does anyone have some news on the availability of this handset and box (S675IP) in France ?
Thanks

Every thing arrives in due (or may be late) time...

http://www.magimag-telecom.fr/product_info.php?products_id=2946

See also www.Amazon.fr and www.ciao.fr that have an entry for the S675IP but no price or availability information yet...

Keep on checking periodically...

Cheer up ! Just wished some one from Siemens would invite himself on this forum to give that kind of information....

Is it possible to change language on the answering machine to English? In the manual I see it is possible to change it to some north European languages. But I cant find how to do it for English.
Thanks,
Sergey

Serge 10:07 PM, November 23, 2007

S675 IP at last also available on "Amazon.fr" ....

For the answering machine language, serguei, I'm supprised to here that it can be changed, because, I have like you, read quite thoroughly the available documentation on this point to see if I could grey import the phone from Germany and it seems (also confirmed buy german sellers) that the only language settings available are for the menu system...

Auld Nick 11:42 AM, November 26, 2007

BEWARE

I have just had my S675 IP box from Amazon.fr and the problem is that Amazon.fr, even if it promotes this telephone on his site, does not actually ship it.

It comes directly from "Bug computer components" so you just get a standard German set with only german documentation, and of course a german answering machine whose language I don't know how to change.

By the way I have not been able to connect to my french SIP provider "freephonie".

If any one could post on how to get serious help from Siemens, once you are a trusted customer, and also how to handle the case with Amazon, it would be greatly appreciated !!

I can't seem to find the s450 ip, much less the s675 ip in the US. Is anyone selling them here? Will they be?

Chris 7:07 AM, December 1, 2007

Does anyone know if the s675ip really works with gigaset.net
Mine works fine with fixed line, and also my sip provider, but I cant get it to work with gigaset.net

Megwenda 1:44 PM, December 3, 2007

It seems when you read the Gigaset.net pages that the service is intended for some countries only... but I don't know how the service detects in which country you are using the box, or for which country it has been designed.

In my case I have a german S675 IP, and it seems via the web browser to connect to "gigaset.net" but I haven't been able to "use" the service, maybe because I haven't read the documentation thoroughly on that aspect...

In which country are you Megwends, and from which country is your S675 IP box ?

Regards

Nick

Auld Nick 11:43 AM, December 4, 2007

Nick,
I am in switzerland, and the box was bought in switzerland.. and it should work here:-)

You can only use the gigaset.net to connect to another gigaset.net user, and you have to first define your nickname... and that is where my set fails, it does not allow me to open the online directory

megwenda 2:41 PM, December 4, 2007

Megwenda

I have been able on my phone to define my nick name ("Auld Nick" by the way) and have a Gigaset number 210987195002#9 and when I try to dial this number (eg dial my self i get the following IP error number : 485 ...

May be you can try to dial it !!

Nick

I have just got off the phone with Siemens support.

It appears that for some unknown reason the gigaset.net function has been deliberately deactivated in the devices sold in the Swiss market

This after I have bought two phones (s675ip and c455ip) for the explicit purpose of using them to communicate with my daughter in Tansania (and before I bought them, I posted a support question asking whether they would work in Tansania.. the answer was yes, so I went ahead and bought them) Seems if I by them in Tasnania, they would work... it is the Swiss packed version that is castrated.

GLad you were able to register yourself, that indicates your device is working.. now all you ned is to find a friend who also has one of the new "gigaset.net ready" siemens phones

Thanks for responding though

Megwenda

Megwenda 3:32 PM, December 5, 2007

Hard luck Megwenda

It does seem the Siemens internationalisation policy is very questionable indeed ...

The only chance i see apart from negociating a phone refund is to look for various SIP providers in Switzerland, but beware, I think there is also some constraints ... all SIP providers don't seem to be accessible... look on the S450 IP blog to make sure...

Auld Nick 5:47 PM, December 5, 2007

My S675IP works perfectly with Betamax providers.
But there is no way of getting it to register on my Eutelia account.
My Eutelia account is valid and registers straight away on 3 other non Siemens ATA's.

jspv 6:06 PM, December 6, 2007

Gigaset.net worked for me fine for the first couple of days, with my new S675IP, but then it stopped working. Cant call my friend or get the echo machine with the gigaset.net number 1234#9.

It seems that there are traffic going between S675IP and giaset.net, but I have no sound in the phone. I haver tried disconnecting power changing to different firewal, and forwarding ports 5060 and 5004. changing port numbers e.t.c. But still no reconnect to gigaset.net.

Think there is a bug in the firmware, but no update available.

anyone know if S675 IP will come to US?

benjasmine 12:38 PM, December 7, 2007

Hi Anders Stockholm,
same thing happened on my S675IP with gigaset.net. Siemens say on their website it does not work in every country. Maybe Siemens could tell in which countries it does not work thus avoiding people buying a lame duck. I am in France.
jspv

jspv 10:35 PM, December 7, 2007

I agree JSPV

I have the same problem e.g. on my telephone Web page accessible from my PC it seems to say the box is registred to Gigaset.net but when I dial the 1234#9 even if it seems to go through I have no sound... I have a Gigaset Nick Name (Auld Nick) and number "210987195002#9". Do you have a Gigaset Nick Name and numbre to try to call ?

By the way, where did you buy your S675 IP in France, and do you have your answering machine working in French ?

Nick from France

Why does Siemens steadfastly refuse to make their DECT VoIP products available in the United States?

The products look great, and there's just as healthy a market for good VoIP products here as there is everywhere else.

Paul Chambers 7:33 PM, December 8, 2007

Hi Auld Nick,

I bought my S675IP from a German webshop.
I live in Europe, speak 4 European languages and think and act Europe.
I need or rather needed the set for my business for which I find an Italian call number usefull. I have one with Eutelia Voip, one of the major Italian voip providers.
My answering machine only taks German; ok for me but useless to other people using the phone.
I do have a nickname for gigaset.net. It is Jspv. But as my S675IP does not register with gigaset.net nobody can call me and I can't call anybody.

I contacted customer care English international a couple of times.
If you want to be amazed read the following:
- They are convinced the answering machine is not in the S675IP but hosted by France Telecom (I am not even a customer of FT). So I should call FT to explain my problem......
- Why I can't register with Eutelia: call FT.....
- They do not even know what gigaset.net is, thinking it is a website. If i can't connect to gigaset.net call FT or try gigaset.fr or gigaset.com.....

Anybody thinking about buying this phone should first make sure it can fulfill the 2 basic functions expected from it:
1. Register with one's Voip provider.
2. Register with gigaset.net.

If not be happy with an expensive TOPS.

jspv 4:37 PM, December 9, 2007

I guess Siemens has done nothing to fix their base station design. I've had the C455IP for about a year now, and I'm still waiting for a fix because my answering machine is in german too.
I contacted them and all they did is point me towards a menu option that never existed on my phone.
So in terms of support, customer care, and design, I would rate Siemens very poorly. How can one design a product stuck on one language? In this discussion I see they have done nothing to improve any of this.

Francois Rey 10:14 AM, December 13, 2007

Woke up this morning to a red flashing message light on the handset

Seems there is a new firmware available for the s675ip.

downloaded it, and see I now have the ECO mode that they promised when I bought the phone.

Will test some more this afternoon to see if it also fixed the gigaset.net problem and let you know

By the way, the phone itself is working great both with pstn and with my voip provider (sipcall.ch). I must admit that it was really easy to set up, and has had no problems since installation.

Am taking a c455ip to my

Megwenda 10:25 AM, December 13, 2007

My S675 IP prompted me that there was a new firmware update, I hit the button to install it, and it snot worked since.

Tried resetting it, tried getting via the web access, the handsets just won't see the base station.

Thanks Siemens, now no one wants responsiblity as I brought it from amazon.co.uk but was shipped the German model from Germany. Best bet is an expensive return shipping, not impressed.

Edward Cooper 1:43 PM, December 14, 2007

Well, I had already made up my mind fairly quickly:
1. to switch off the automatic firmware update in the settings.
2. not to do any firmware update until I'm sure it is harmless.
Just did not want my S675IP to commit suicide.

jspv 3:19 PM, December 14, 2007

Hello Megwenda,

I've just tried to update it to the last firmware version using the web tool and I think we are in the same situation.... my phone does not work.... the handset does not see the base station....

i'm from spain, and it was a gift (it comes from germany too)

any advise???

thanks

Javato 1:57 AM, December 16, 2007

sorry i mean Edward Cooper, not Megwenda

Javato 2:26 AM, December 16, 2007

I have the s675 IP and I'm very disappointed and I fully agree with jspv !
"in terms of support, customer care, and design, I would rate Siemens very poorly..."
I have the same problem with the answering machine, no way to change the language, and the hotline in Switzerland suggested to me some manipulation that I applied without success !
It consists on entering the following shortcuts starting from the menu: 4-3-9-2 then wait 2 seconds and enter 2.
They claim that it's a hidden operation !

Does any one performed it and succeed to change the language ?

Anonymous 10:37 AM, December 17, 2007

THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROBLEM!!! I tried to update firmware on my s675ip and the base now is out of service ( what are the actions? May anybody to advise the technique of full reset s675ip base or something??? SOS
ping base_ip -t shows that the base temporarily connected then failure then no connection and again and again...
the handset doesnt see the base ((

alex 9:52 AM, December 18, 2007

Same problem here with the firmware update of the S675 Ip.
I returned my first model (bought on the 16th) today and that one has the same problem.

Joost 8:02 PM, December 18, 2007

I meant that the second model I got when I returned the first model had the same problem.
Seems to be a faulty firmware?

Joost 8:07 PM, December 18, 2007

According to Siemens Helpdesk this is a problem with certain routers. Their advice is to get a new model and try to update it when connected to another internet connection. (At a friends or a relatives place)

Joost 11:02 AM, December 19, 2007

and how to reanimate the old one without return??

alex 1:16 PM, December 19, 2007

I can't believe the Siemens Helpdesk advice....

- what can do the router to corrupt the firmware / device???

- have they told you what happens exactly?

- My router is Zyxel P660HW-61.... then ... do we need to do serveral test until finding the right router?? if I corrupt another S675IP in my next test...!!!!

- is it impossible to fix our S675IP without return???

Javato 7:23 PM, December 19, 2007

For the swiss phones if written "für den betrieb im Schweizer Telefonnetz" under base

try the following sequence to switch answering machine to French.... menu then : 8-5-9-2 and again 2 :

Should be followed by a bip... and supposed to switch languages

Auld Nick 9:52 PM, December 19, 2007

By the way, my german phone switched OK to the new firmware with I suppose ECO mode and a new symbol (on the upper part of phone dispay - seems an antenna between two brackets)....

But it always cuts of after 3 or 5 or 10 mn use with message "looking for base" then "Server not accessible" then "SIP error registration" but doesnot hang up the caller...it just becomes silent...

Auld Nick 9:56 PM, December 19, 2007

I have succeeded to get my S675IP to register with gigadet.net.
The condition appears to be that Stun has to be disabled on all providers.
Restarting the router after that may be useful.

jspv 8:50 PM, December 26, 2007

I am using the S675IP in my InternetPlusBellen account via KPN in the Netherlands, bought it especcially for using it via voip providers, but found out that KPN is using the same SIP port (5060) as all the voip providers, that's why every conversation is disconnected after 25 seconds.Has anyone got a solution for this problem ?

Bert Bouwer 4:24 PM, January 5, 2008

Sip port 5060 being used by many voip providers should not be the reason for disconnections after 25 sec. Try selecting "no" for Stun enable in your provider settings and port forwarding 5060 and 5004 in your router.

jspv 6:48 PM, January 6, 2008

Hello,

I have a bug with last S675IP firmware (02097) :

From time to time (randomly), when a IP call is received the handset doesn't ring... And there is no call indication on the phone.

There 2 ways to solve the problem :
- doing a call from the handset
- restart the DECT base (power off / on)

I've also seen this problem with C455IP DECT base (v02097).
The previous firmware didn't have this problem

Is there any better place to report this type of problem ?

Thanks.

Manu 11:08 PM, January 7, 2008

Well after abandoning my S675 IP, plugged in and connected for a few days its started working again.

Anyone got a magic keypad sequence to switch the answering machine prompts to english?

Edward Cooper 11:44 AM, January 10, 2008

I WAS desperate to buy this phone in UK. Ligo (cordless-phones.co.uk) continually postpone their ETA for it. Amazon.co.uk has German company who now say they will not ship to UK as not compatible (seems true from reading this).
Just reading this blog has raised my blood pressure! Do Siemens have any business acumen at all? Why spend so much in R&D and not actually supply to anyone!?
If you are (un)lucky enough to acquire this phone it seems it is ridden with bugs!

Anyone disagree?

Very poor show Siemens!

Trevor 6:00 AM, January 16, 2008

It is possible to put the language of s675ip in english?

Tks

Anonymous 11:06 PM, January 17, 2008

At last the S675 IP is available in France on the Darty web site
and I have had it shipped.

It works far better than the first german model I had to send back. I've upgraded it easily to the last software version.

No problems with the line stability. It does not cut anymore, and the SMS work quite fine. The answering machine is in French. It's fine with Freephonie the free VOIP provider and the PSTN.

I haven't for the moment checked with the Gigaset.net because I don't have pals with the same phone yet... and with the Freephonie to see if i can have to calls in parallel or call abroad...

Haut les coeurs...

Auld Nick 8:48 PM, January 22, 2008

Hi Auld Nick,
what a pity for the French-German friendship...;)
Maybe the German phone did not like the French phone lines...:)

Vive la France!

Trouble has arrived. Life was to great. For the last 6 hours I can't dial via SIP as I have a "erroneous SIP registration"....

Can't get it to hook back on the freephonie network...

Auld Nick 1:02 AM, February 3, 2008

Regular DECT phones will not ship in the US due to the frequencies they use, i.e. FCC regulations.
There's DECT 6.0 that is for use in the US, which uses different, incompatible frequencies. Like with mobile phones, the US is always trying to do their own thing. Maybe that ends when Motorola and Qualcomm go out of business, but until then, the US protects its industry by having US standards that are not compatible with the rest of the world.
Import your own at your own risk is the only "solution".

rcfa 11:59 AM, February 11, 2008

Yes, the DECT 'standard' is on a different frequency in the US, but Siemens do sell several models of Gigaset phones here - just none of the VoIP-enabled ones. I can easily purchase the S450, for example, but not the S450 IP.

So the converting the RF side can't be the reason - they've already done that work.

Yes, the RF frequency planning in the US is asinine, Who in their right mind would allocate GSM & UMTS to different frequency bands than everywhere else in the world? Unfortunately the market is big enough, and policy makers arrogant enough, that they get away with it. Then again, most positions of power in government and associated regulatory bodies are political appointees, so I guess it's to be expected. I really didn't fathom the degree of influence of 'special interests' and 'campaign funding' until I moved here.

Paul Chambers 5:40 PM, February 11, 2008

I have been playing with this phone since 2 weeks, so far i didn't had any major problems. I like the web interface where u can configure all sip accounts easily. Above all i like the dialing plans feature which u can set thru the web interface.

there are some open issues which i think siemens should fix it as soon as possible:

1. I couldn't find any option to switch the answering machine prompts to english? This is also not documented in the manual.

2. Somehow, i don't see any call lists (received or dialed). If i have any missed calls then i see the list and a red light keeps blinking. To remove the blinking u need to delete the list, else it stays on. In my view this is bit strange.

3. I agree with other users that the menu navigation is slow compared with other phones.

4. i was not able to configure yahoo messenger with the jabber settings. there is no help in the manual.

if anyhow have found any answers please share them.

Vishnu 4:32 PM, February 12, 2008

Language change: as alreadymentioned earlier in the Swiss model (at least) you can change the language of the phone ansering machine by entering the phone menu and typing 8 5 9 2 then wait 2 secs and then 1 for german, 2 for french, 3 for italian. This is followed by a beep. I've tryed, it works. There is no english though. Other keys give you some other functions: 0 displays the MAC address, 6 and 7 allow you to edit the 926 and 927 parameters, of which I don't know what they are. Sorry for the english speakers. Regards.

Hilmar 3:52 PM, February 15, 2008

According to Ligo inthe UK - the 675 which was due to come into stock "any day now" will now not appear at all and a model they are listing as the 685IP will be available in March/April 2008 which they say also has Bluetooth..

It seems a real shame that Siemens appear to have feature rich phones that just aren't available for sale, or practical use, outside Germany, mainly due to language differences. Is the German economy so strong that they don't want to export!

voipukuser 1:00 AM, February 16, 2008

UK - very disappointing. It shows enormous confidence in your products or contempt for your customers (or both) to advertise something as coming soon (LIgo were taking order several months ago) and then to just cancel the product to "launch" another on back order.

Hilmar - where did you see a mention of bluetooth? The spec I saw looks identical to the 675IP - I note that Siemens have swapped a digit to an 8 on other products for a UK version. Having needed new phones (to replace aging Simens kit) since Augus tlast year and having had promised dates come and go I wonder if I really want to believe another 42 days for the S685IP. I guess we won't get a comment from anyone at Siemes?

I have had great repsonses to questions about the S675IP from the Siemens web help team - except for one thing - they didn't know that the product wasn't going to ship in the UK..

Ian 6:10 PM, February 16, 2008

ian The bluetooth info came from Ligo - it seems that the 685 is an updated 675 but their pages don't mention any differences at the moment and I cannot find any reference to the "685" anywhere else.

DST are still advertisng the S675IP on their web pages stating they are expected in March. - See: http://www.home-phones.co.uk/asp/product.asp?product=878

I am becoming more and more confused and disappointed.

voipukuser 12:31 AM, February 18, 2008

I finally got this great phone here in Norway, and had the chance to play around with it for a couple of weeks.

One problem I cant seem to solve is how to get my older Gigaset handsets to work with the new S675 IP base; is there somehow to get the C1 or SL1 handsets to work (fixedline) ?

Jarle 10:22 PM, February 22, 2008

I just bought the swiss version in Switzerland. I was amazed to have a notice book in various language like french but no option to change the menu language... sigh

Is there any way to change the menu language in french ?

MINOS 3:38 PM, February 25, 2008

Have just cancelled my Ligo order after two months of waiting :-(
Am taking my chances with amazon.de instead..

More information on the new S685 IP (with Bluetooth) in this
press release. I see Ligo have started offering pre-order too. Hope this one makes it.

Nick 4:04 PM, February 25, 2008

I'ts ok I found how to change the language ... and you have also : english, french, italiano, espanol, portugues, dansk, norsk, svenska, suomi, cesky, turkce, ellinika, magyar, hrvatski, slovenscina, romana !

MENU -> 8 -> 4 -> 1

Everything is good but it is impossible to call sip accounts with existing firmware. If a new firmware lets to call sip accounts it will be perfect.

I am a prospective buyer for S675IP. I have looked at the blog and I am concerned that it might be a bad purchase. I am in the UK. I use SIPDiscount, VoIPCheap, VoIpDiscount and SIPgate.

I would love to have answers to the following . . .

1. Can I get the answering machine to work in English? I would like to record my own message.

2. Will it work with the SIP providers that I use?

3. It looks to be a bit cheaper in Europe compared to UK, is there any reason not to use the cheapest source I can find?

4. What are the significant outstanding problems that Siemens have not solved?

5. Is the S685IP any better than the S675IP? Blue-tooth on the 685 is convenient, but are there any other advantages?

6. Why don't Siemens engineers answer people's questions? They are getting wonderful feedback, a bit of help in return would be a fair way to proceed.

Regards,.................Topher

Chris Skerry 6:09 PM, March 1, 2008

Hi Chris
I purchased a 675IP last week from Germany, for use in the UK.

To answer your questions:
1. No problem. The German version comes with a pre-recorded German message, but you can just record your own.

2. It seems compatible with any standard SIP provider (although I've not finished setting that up yet). There are loads of providers details pre-loaded, or you can enter all data yourself for up to 6 different providers I think.

3. I guess your only issue is ease of return if it goes wrong. I used amazon.de.

4. I can't answer this yet. Although the pre-loaded firmware was lacking many features. I upgraded it straight away (which is very easy).

5. I've decided not to worry about Bluetooth. It's the 675 for me..

6. Some people have said that feedback has been good from Siemens. Personally, I've not contacted them - yet.

The only other things I would add are:

*) SMS - I've not yet managed to set-up the SMS to work on my BT line. I hope it's compatible!!

*) Incoming CallerID - I think I've changed a setting somewhere because callerid is no longer showing when I receive a call. I'm pretty sure it was there at the beginning, so don't think that's a compatibility issue.

If anyone can help with my 2 issues, would be very pleased to hear from you..

Best
Nick

Nick 6:58 PM, March 4, 2008

Nick,

Good to hear from you and thanks for the update. Using the same numbers as before

1. I understand that you can pre-record your own answering-machine message, (in English in our case), but I believe that the answering machine prompt messages (like 'press # to listen to your message') from the system will remain in German. Have you tried this? If you look upwards in this blog it explains how to change the language but I am not sure what language it refers to, it may be the on-screen language; it may be some voice prompts. I would be interested in your comments.

2. Great. My understanding is that you have to have each handset allocated to one SIP provider, so with 2 handsets you can only have 2 providers. Am right?

3. With amazon.de I think you got a good price, they are the cheapest I have found so far.

4. OK. I agree, it takes ages to set these complicated things set up. Have you found any problems at this early stage?

5. I agree, bluetooth is not such a big deal. I have been considering the C475IP. Apparently it is expected to be available in the UK at the end of March. It has most of the S675IP features, but on the -ve side having to buy it in the UK (to get everything in English|) makes it more expensive.

6. After being very persistent, I have obtained a phone number (not premium rate) in the Netherlands for Siemens support. The chap was brilliant. I am a bit nervous of giving it out perhaps the webmaster will advise me if I can.

Best Regards,....................Chris.

Chris Skerry 7:46 PM, March 4, 2008

Chris
To continue the debate:

1) After my last comment I wondered if that's what you meant. As far as I can see, you're correct. The voicemail admin prompts remain in German. Lucky I speak German! But it's not a problem, there are only one or two spoken messages.

2) No, I don't think the SIP providers are bound to handsets. You can set-up up to 6 SIP accounts, then when you dial you decide which account should route the call. The simplest way seems to be by dialling the number and adding #3 to the end which will route the call via SIP account 3.

4) Only problem now seems to be UK network compatability. There is definitely a problem with CLI on incoming calls. CLI works fine for the first few minutes, and then it just stops displaying the caller's number. Would love a Siemens engineer to comment on this! Please!!

Also - I still haven't managed to successfully transmit an SMS from the phone to the outside world.

Despite this - I still don't regret the purchase. Perhaps now we know why they're releasing the 685 model!

Regards
Nick

Nick 6:02 PM, March 7, 2008

Nick,

Thanks for the comprehensive response. I have the answers to all the questions, but just one small niggle. Please don't bother to reply if you are busy, but . . . .

If say, I am recording an answer on your answering machine - I will have heard your voice inviting me to leave a message. So lets suppose I do leave a message. This is the question - does the machine say things to me in German to help me leaving the message? For example do I have the chance to re-record the message? Or does it warn me when my recording time is almost used up? and so on?

Thanks again for the helpful communications.

Regards,.............Chris.

Chris Skerry 9:56 PM, March 7, 2008

I've also bought the S675IP from Voipdistri to use in the UK. I was wondering if anyone else has done the same and more importantly to me, what power adapter you used to make it work with UK volts? Thanks.

Dan 9:42 AM, March 11, 2008

Dan,

The volts are not a problem. Germany and UK are both 230 volts 50 hertz.

I am pretty sure the power supply plugs for the S675IP are the narrow 2 pin sort and are exactly the same as a UK electric shaver, the pins are about 18 mm apart.

You can buy a shaver adapter to connect the phone's power supply. The shaver adapter has a 13 amp male pins on one side, they plug into your normal 13 amp socket. On the other side is a shuttered shaver socket where you plug in the Siemens power supply. The shaver adapter contains a 1 amp fuse to protect the device that you connect.

You might have to go to a specialist shop to get the shaver adapters.

If you have moment please tell us readers how you get on setting up the phone. I am interested in any difficulties caused by the German language phone prompts and Nick will be interested to know how you get on with CLI. Good luck.

Regards,..............Chris.

Chris Skerry 11:40 AM, March 11, 2008

Chris,

I've had serious problems with this phone. After spending £400 trying to get the thing working I am now considering an normal analogue line. Got the unit from Voipdistri, but the thing keeps power cycling. LAN light comes on, then off. The whole thing feels flaky. I'll be buying a UK analogue line and getting Virgin media to provide service.

I am used to VOIP, I've been using the Linksys SPA941 and various Aastra handsets for years. But this is garbage, avoid!

Dan

Dan 2:04 PM, March 14, 2008

Chris,

Regarding the German language, I used the secret hack described above to change the handsets text language from German to English. I did plan to let Voiptalk to provide the voicemail service.

I'll be contacting Voipdistri and to see if I can return the unit.

Dan

Dan 2:08 PM, March 14, 2008

Dan,

Thanks for the update. Sorry you have had such bad experience. I wonder if anyone from Siemens will read this and contact you. It seems amazing that a reputable firm like Siemens sells such a poor product.

By the way, Siemens Germany Technical Support have told me that the S675IP and the C475IP will be available on the UK market in late March 2008. Therefore, if I am right, English will be the language for everything including voice prompts, and they will have hopefully trained the UK tech support guys on the products.

Regards,.................Chris

Chris Skerry 5:21 PM, March 14, 2008

Chris,

That's encouraging. Although I did get the impression that the S675 IP was being skipped for the bluetooth S685 series?

Is the bluetooth component meant to give easier communication between the Siemens handsets and the mobile phone? perhaps sync the vcards with the phones address book?

I recently acquired the S675 IP, with two additional S67H stations. I have been trying to get the best advice for a suitable router to communicate wirelessly with my computer and broadband, Finding it hard to get difinitve answers. I think a combination of Linskys WRT150N router with Linsksys WUSB300N adapter might give me the best results.
Can anyone out there please tell me if I'm correct.
I'm delighted with the phone, but want to use VOIP for all international calls.

Roger Boaden 10:38 AM, March 19, 2008

Chris,

I presume you're UK based, where did you get your S675 from? DST (UK)?

I use a Netgear Rangemax WPN824 to reduce dead spots but I think for £46 the Linksys will do a good job.

Dan

Dan 11:07 AM, March 19, 2008

Dan, Roger,

I am in the UK, but I have not yet bought the S675IP. If I buy it in UK to get the full English language it will be very expensive. Germany seems to be the cheapest source, but the phone will have German voice prompts which I cant change. I am doing my research beforehand. I can not find a comparable competitive phone.

Siemens Technical Support have told be that the S675IP will be available in the UK at the end of March 2008, and the S685IP in about three months time. They say (in an email) that the 685 is identical to the 675 except that it has bluetooth. I assume the bluetooth is to allow the mobile phone's phone book to be transferred.

I have checked Siemens cordless phone support on +44 (0)845 367 0812. They are in Ireland and support a number of European countries. They are able to give technical support in English on the S675IP.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the best routers to use, may be try the phone number above.

Good luck, keep in touch,............Chris

Chris Skerry 12:38 PM, March 19, 2008

I live in France and purchased in France. I've tried to stay with Siemens by trying to get the SE366 WLAN router, but every possible outlet I've tried do not appear to stock it. Eventually Siemens France did give me a 'name', but although they carry a large range of Siemens products including the S675 IP, they do not have routers, or adpaters. Prices in France are now much the same as Germany.
For the moment I'm trusting Linskys with their claim that Wireless-N is better for VOIP telephone calls.

Roger Boaden 2:31 PM, March 19, 2008

Roger,

I have been thinking about your point about the choice of router. I don't believe it will make any difference for phone calls. I use a Siemens SL75 WLAN phone. Calls go via the phone's Wi Fi link to a router and then to the internet. It is wonderfully cheap using SIPDiscount.

I have used it with two routers:-

1. Belkin F5D8230-4 Wi Fi Pre-N connected to a cable broadband at about 4 Meg

2. Linksys WAG354G Wi Fi on a BT phone line with broadband at about 5 Meg

I cant tell the difference.

I don't think that Wireless-N is relevant to phone calls. Your S675IP phone is connected to the base unit using DECT wireless technology not Wi Fi

Using Wi Fi as I do, to connect to a Wi Fi phone is not ideal, because the radio coverage in a house is nothing like as good as the old fashioned DECT technology

Hope this helps. Regards,.............Chris.

Chris Skerry 6:05 PM, March 19, 2008

Agree about the DECT, I have the Linksys WIP330 WiFi phone and it's not great. Crap network range, lousy battery time and feels sluggish in operation; running Windows CE-(ment!)

DECT is definately the way to go, espically if you live in an old building with thick walls.

I just pre-ordered the S685IP from Hip-IP.com, they told me they are expecting the stock mid April.

S675 = buggy firmware

I have a bug with last S675IP firmware (02097) : From time to time (randomly), when a IP call is received, the handset doesn't ring... And there is no call indication on the phone.

I've also seen this problem with C455IP DECT base (v02097).
The previous firmware didn't have this problem

IT'S URGENT TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !

Is there any way to go back to the previous firmware version ?

Thanks.

I recently acquired the S675 IP, with 1 additional S67H handset.
I've been desappointed by the poor import of outlook contacts : you have to do it one by one!!!
I've tried to use Gigaset.net services: I can access the configuration but, when I try to modify the content, and specially to add RSS feeds, I have the following message :
HTTP Status 404 - /myaccount/fr/save.do
type Status report
message /myaccount/fr/save.do
description The requested resource (/myaccount/fr/save.do) is not available.

IConclusion good ideas, poor implementation.

Hi all,

I like to know if in the future release of firmware will be possible to select more function on how to set local prefix and international prefix for outgoing calls.

I use more VOIP provider that are not in my country and then they want international prefix for local call too.

Please keep in mind that it is an inmportant features.

Now my S676IP set local prefix only for number that not start with "0". (how reported on manual)

Max 9:50 PM, April 7, 2008

Hi All,

I have been using the S675 IP phone in the UK for the last 5 months. I use VoIPCheap, VOIPStunt, Poivy and an Asterisk server with no major problems. I purchased the unit from http://www.technikdirekt.de/ who made it clear the phone was made for use in Germany only and some of the special features would not work. Features that are German specific that I have found so far are;
1) The voicemail prompts when playing back messages from phone are in German.
2) Called ID doesn't work which also effects the functioning of SMS I believe.
3) Online directory lookup only lists German directories

Different countries user different standards for Caller ID. The Netherlands uses DTMF based Caller ID and Germany uses ETSI See http://www.ainslie.org.uk/callerid.htm for more info. You can get a converter at http://www.dectshop.nl or use a TA like a Linksys SPA3102 that can convert CallerID standards between FXS and FXO ports.

To successfully import contacts from Outlook you need to perform a 2 step process as Outlook doesn't support exporting contacts directly to vcf format. First export your contacts to a comma separated file from outlook. Open the comma separated file in Excel and delete columns that aren't available on the phone. Open a browser window to http://homepage.mac.com/phrogz/CSV2vCard_v2.html . Copy the contents of the spreadsheet to the paste area of Step 1 and follow the steps onscreen to generate a vcf to import to your handset.

How can I solve this problem?

Many thanks.

"server not accessible" or "no ip addressing" I am getting these message from someone else and the text may vary a little bit. But anyone knows what's going on here?

Hi folks. I've just bought this baby. Is it real that I can't call a SIP URI? Common this must be a joke. Do I always have to find the corresponding ip? And the iptel.org service isn't working..

Manuel 11:12 PM, April 29, 2008

Hi Manuel,
Do it this way!! you can tell the other part to call you, then you miss the call! After that you can view your miss calls info: there you have the SIP address. You just have to click the call key, and your S675 ip will dial it.

I don't know if possible to dial a SIP URI otherwise.
If someone knows it? please post it here.

Just bought the S675IP a few days ago. Lots of nice features, but the phone doesn't display caller ID on incoming analog calls. This is driving me crazy! It's the most basic feature of any analog phone (right after being able to make a call at all).

I see several other people complaining about this on this blog. Please! Siemens needs to make a statement about this explaining how to make it work or admit that it doesn't... I will return the phone if this can't get working.

I bought the phone in Denmark and it's marked for use in Denmark. So that can't be the explanation. I subscribe to TDC (biggest Danish telco) and have the "Caller ID" service from them. All my other analog phones have no problem displaying caller ID.

Saw the posting about a DTMFFSK converter, and that may solve it, but really why don't the handset take care of that automatically or being targetted for the market they're sold in?

Sincerely,
Allan Hvass

I have had an S685IP for about two weeks now and am very impressed. I bought it from www.provu.co.uk as they are official Siemens distributors and have a member of staff who is very knowledgeable about Siemens' products. I think I must have been one of the first to get hold of one.

According to the web interface, mine has the following firmware (and asking it to update say's there's nothing new).
Firmware version: 020970000000 / 043.00
EEPROM version: 114

I have it talking to gigaset.net and sipgate.co.uk. I can make speech calls to my Nokia N800 tablet, also on sipgate, too.
I am not using instant messaging yet.

I can beam contacts to it over bluetooth from my Nokia phone, albeit slowly... so slowly I wonder if the phone has crashed, but after maybe 30s it responds!

CallerID works very well, the answering machine feature is good, with the handset showing all the details of the call, allowing you to save the contact details to the phone directory. My previous phone was a Philips Zenia, where each handset had its own directory (same as this S685IP) but there was also a shared directory in the base, a feature I miss with the Siemens.

Call clarity is excellent, I have eco-dect enabled; answerphone quality if quite good, it says 18 mins of storage, it must use compression because the time doesn't go down so fast.

Although I have added a weather service through the mygigaset website, I cannot find how to activate it on the handset.

Hi All,

I finally got the S685 IP + Additional Handset.

The device is overall pretty dam good, but CallerID is just so unrealiable.

Sometimes working and sometimes not. I've tested this by calling the fixed line from my mobile. Displays as FIXEDLINE and then if I disconnect and call again, it correctly displays the incomming number.

So Flakey....but why.....

I was contacted by Siemens support today about the voip service missing. It seems like Siemens decided to leave it out for Switzerland, it's not a bug. We have a big monopolist, Swisscom, in Switzerland and I assume that Siemens is following orders from them. I see no other reason for Siemens to give less service to swiss customers. I'm disappointed - don't buy the swiss model or buy some other brand.

The Siemens support was fast and they knew what was the problem, but my understanding is that they are powerless. Nothing to complain about their support.

Niclas 9:37 PM, July 1, 2008

Hi Edward Cooper & Marc,
I will try to find out. Did you contact customer care yet?

Moritz 10:14 AM, July 2, 2008

Hi guys,

I got news...sry to say but please notice that the answering machine is only in german language...

Moritz 4:04 PM, July 2, 2008

Hi there,

I did contact Siemens regarding the German answering machine. They told me it's always the language of the country where you bought the phone and there is no way to change. Great, I bought the phone in Germany but live in Brazil.

However, the real screw-up is the fact that you can't dial SIP-URIs.
A voip-phone that only can reach old-fashioned landlines and cell phones ?

It would be an easy thing to fix with a simple software update, but this company seems not to be very interested in the needs of their customers.

So, next time Siemens rather will be no option for me.

HS 6:01 AM, July 4, 2008

Everything was working fine so far, however today I noticed that the "Info services" on screensaver (e.g. weather etc.) do not appear anymore. Also the Online Directory Service (klickTel or Gigaset.net) stopped working too, so I cannot search for contacts or even update my own username on Gigaset.net (it shows a message "service not available").

Are both Services down? Anyone else have problems seeing the Weather of searching the online directory?

It's probably not my Internet Connection or my router to blame because I can use normally my VoIP provider to make calls and also the Gigaset.net Echo Service (12341#9) are working fine. Also I can login to the http://www.gigaset.net/myaccount and change the settings without a problem.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Saturday morning, the handset displayed "New firmware available. Do you want to install?" Sounds good, I thought and pressed "Yes".
The handset immediately lost contact to the base station. After 30 minutes I tried to switch the handset off and back on...no change. I tried to register the handset again...no change. Tried to contact the base stations web GUI...not available. The base station pings though - most of the time.
After waiting another 15 minutes I switched the base station off and back on...no change. Reset the base station, reset the handset, tried to re-register the handset...no change.
According to previous postings in this thread, this issue also occurred with earlier firmware updates. I am not impressed...

Jens Nielsen 11:33 AM, July 20, 2008

After reading a ton of old postings regarding both the S675IP and previous models, I managed to bring the base station back to life:

If a firmware upgrade fails, the unit will try to recover automatically. Apparently, this involves contacting the Internet and will not always work in a NAT environment - even if the unit has all external ports forwarded to it.

Putting the base station directly on a public, unprotected IP address (and rebooting) made the difference. After 10 minutes I rebooted the unit, and everything was working - the old settings were preserved and the newest firmware installed.

The handset needed to be switched off and back on before re-registering with the base station.

Perhaps this can help others with similar problems.

The reservation of IP address requires the MAC Address of my Gigaset C450 IP Base.

How do I get the MAC Address for my Gigaset C450 IP Base?

Azhar

Azhar 9:12 AM, July 29, 2008

Hi Azhar,

I'm not familiar with D-Link Router but I assume that it is possible to get the actual Status/Leases of the DHCP Service. Normally those Status pages show the MAC- and the assigned IP-Address. The MAC-Address of your Gigaset C450IP will start with 00:01:E3

Catalonia 11:14 PM, July 29, 2008

... and by the way - the MAC-Address is also shown in on the Status-Page of your Gigaset ... :-)

Catalonia 1:54 PM, July 30, 2008

I would like to thank Jens Nielsen for his solution above, saved me the agony of getting my base replaced.
