I would like to give you a brief overview of the Siemens Gigaset C470 IP and the Gigaset C475 IP with answering machine, two hybrid cordless phones for fixed network and internet telephony (VoIP). As with all Siemens Gigaset IP phones, a PC is not needed for configuration. Changing from IP to fixed network calls is done at the touch of a button.
Siemens Gigaset IP phone users have access to additional services, including an online phone directory, a weather service and a news service via RSS feed. Thanks to energy-saving power supply units found in the new Siemens Gigasets with ECO DECT technology, these phones save up to 60% more energy compared with conventional Siemens cordless phones and their transmitting power can also be variably reduced.
By choosing an IP supplier, the corresponding settings for internet telephony are automatically loaded into the menu and the individual user data is entered using the keypad. Up to six SIP accounts from different providers can be installed. Two VoIP calls and a fixed-line call can be made simultaneously. The Siemens Gigaset C470 IP and C475 IP can be used with up to six handsets and thus can be used ideally as a small PBX.
Together with MeteoGroup, Siemens offers a new weather service with its IP phones: Instead of a screensaver in standby-mode, the phone shows the weather forecast. The weather forecast can be set through the internet site http://www.gigaset.net/myaccount, for certain cities, like the location of a holiday house for example. Alternatively, the latest news can be received on the display via RSS feed. New emails with sender, time, date and subject information can be also received over an implemented POP3 email engine and without a PC connection.
Like all new devices in the Siemens Gigaset family, the Siemens Gigaset C470 IP and C475 IP contribute to environmental protection. Thanks to new switching power supplies, the ECO-DECT technology uses up to 60% less energy than conventional Siemens cordless phones. Choosing ECO Mode reduces the base station’s transmitting power by 80%, even when multiple handsets are being used (the use of up to 6 handsets is possible).
The Siemens Gigaset C470 IP costs €89, 99 (including VAT) and the Siemens Gigaset C475 IP with answering machine costs € 99, 99 (including VAT). An individual Gigaset C47 H handset including charger is available for €69, 99.

Good product. But miss some feature ...
Message waiting indicator still doesn't work on voip with firmware version 02097 (12/2007).
C470IP doesn't fully compatible with rfc3265 MWI (http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3265.txt),
The error is:
-- Got SIP response 481 "Call Leg/Transaction Does Not Exist" back from
Works on asterisk PBX, but without MWI. It is a big problem for me.

hi there
I recently bought c470ip to call via skype. although I follow the manual, I don't seem to configure it properly. for example, it asks me for username and name and password, but I only use name and password in skype. also in the providers under greece, there isn't any skype, just some local isp's.
in addition, the web page shows my ip to be "obtained automatically", but in the manual it's said that a static ip is a prerequisite.
pls, note I dl'd the latest firmware.
are there any step-by-step instructions, or a code even better (says so in the manual)?
finally, can somebody tell me why the registration page keeps returning me errors, whatever username and password I type?
thanks
Hi panayiotis,
I think you misunderstood something. All Gigaset VoIP phones using SIP, which is an open standard. Skype is a proprietary Software (and protocol), which belongs to ebay.
So: SIP != SKYPE
To make a long story short. The Gigaset and SKYPE does not work together ...

Catalonia, thanks for the swift reply.
I guess I made a mistake buying this phone then, cause I can't really blame the salesman.
Well, at least it's still a nice cordless landline phone.
Last hopes: a) people at Siemens releasing an update or even buy the Skype license, b) some hackers to work around this incompatibility.
Not happy...

You guys should google Globarange. It appears that gigaset.net is Siemens' version of Panasonic's concept.
Panasonic hasn't realised it's global vision yet either, but perhaps Panasonic will support its customers better than Siemens. Siemens is a great engineering company and are good at commercial sales, but if history is any precedent they do not have the ability to support a consumer market product in the same way that Apple, Panasonic or Sony can.
I have had the C470IP and two C47H handsets in Spain for a month, and there seems to be a software problem, which could have happened after an online firmware update 020970000000/ 043.00 (EEPROM) 114.
1. After taking an incoming analogue call, there is no secrecy/mute option, only "EXT.CALL........OPTIONS"
Before answering, the options are " ACCEPT.........SILENCE".
2. No incoming calls are logged, even with settings "ALL" calls.
No ID shown either (CLI).
3. Unable to send or receive SMS texts. The phone does ring once when a text should arrive, but no indication of a message.. (A service center number has been entered).
I spoke to a customer care person, and was told to do a handset reset, and a "hard" base station reset but no change.
Is the previous version of the Chagall download available to try to see if that restores the handsets?
Thanks anyone.
c470 sip phone, thought it was unlocked, tried to get help, customer support is bad. Taking the 2 phones that I bought and getting my money back.
hi
this phone works great with sip, for skype you can use uplink or psgw software, to cross between sip and skype
i have configured 6 voip accounts and sound is great,
e-mail notification works too
messinger works through jabber i have tried it ,
sms it's tricky i can get message but not send it , but it's wak spot of phone company
i'll try something else
when you configure sip accounts if it's not under your country just use another, you need only setaps like proxy servers and ports,
i didn't download new firmware yet ,
as i can see it's not working well
you cna use gigaset network without doing set ups
Peter thanks for your reply
I think I'll give UpLink a try
P.
Peter, with uplink or psgw, do you need the computer to be running ?
Skype is fine for computer-computer telephony, and being as popular as it is, a lot of people have skpe accounts.
But for normal outgoing telephone calls (calling landline telephones) skype is among the (if not the single) most expensive providers on the market. You can get VoiP services for a fraction of the cost of Skype if you just look around a bit.
I admit it might be convenient to be able to receive Skype calls on the IP phone instead of the computer, but for me, I would NEVER use Skype to place calls to a landline phone - much too expensive.
If Siemens added Skype support I wouldn't complain, but won't cry if they don't - I suppose with Skype support, you could make Skype your "least" preferable provider for outgoing calls in the account configuration of the phone. Then at least you could receive Skype calls...

Great phone - everything works fine (with minor irritant that my INFO SERVICES page doesn't have a SET/CANCEL button so I cn't turn off the darned weather report!).
However, NO AUTO-FALLOVER from VOIP to FIXED LINE
If a phone is set to use a VOIP provider as the main provider (and the three that I have regsieterd are all good enough for this to be the case), then if the network goes down there is no auto-fallover to the fixed line. So the phone could be plugged into a fixed line, the network could go down and an uninitaited user would not know how to make a simple call.
This is a major, majopr failing and would prevemt me recommending it to anyone who expects more than one poweruser to use the system.
Surely this could easily be addressed ina firmware update though?
I am with you CH regards the Skype, we certainly wont be losing any sleep over it. The one major pain is as a business that accepts Skype calls from customers and suppliers we still have to have a separate phone setup specifically for this, definitely agreed about the outgoing calls though, its not just a matter of price, the quality of Skype doesnt compare to many of the other VoIP providers who dont have the subscription levels that Skype do.
Hi,
Is there any way to connect to your own central stored phone directory? At best LDAP?
Thanks for your information!
Erwin
Hi
I'm interested in the C475IP for its answering machine capability; however it isn't available in Australia (along with the other AM models).
Any idea on when it will be released in Australia?
Cheers

Missing 'Set/Cancel' buttons bug:
Christopher Hollingsworth and anyone else with this 'bug' I have forced a workaround on this.
Go to:
http://ip.address.of.gigaset/settings_infoservice.html
Set the radio button to 'No'
In the address bar type:
javascript:document.gigaset.submit()
Press enter (or hit 'go' button or whatever).
No more weather forecasts.
PAJ.
Would the C475IP work with Skype if one also used the Siemens M34 USB dongle that is Skype compatible?

WHAT IS THE CHEAPEST IP MODEL FROM SIEMENS THAT WILL WORK WITH VOIPSTUNT OVER DSL (I HAVE A SEPERATE ROUTER FROM THE DSL MODEM, BUT DON'T USE IT; BUT I CAN IF NEEDED)?
Cant change answer machine annoucment language to English! It's stuck in French! No Way to turn it off!

Would be nice if you guys could post an actualisation. THX a lot!

Hi! I have bought Siemens S67h in Germany. The charger is 230 v. Do you know if I can use the same charger in South Amerika with 110v? Or where to buy a US part for this phone?
I bought the phone two days ago and everything was working fine. Today I noticed that the Info services on screensaver (e.g. weather etc.) do not appear anymore. Also the Online Directory Service (klickTel or Gigaset.net) stopped working too, so I cannot search for contacts or even update my own username on Gigaset.net (it shows a message "service not available").
Are both Services down? Anyone else have problems seeing the Weather of searching the online directory?
It's probably not my Internet Connection or my router to blame because I can use normally my VoIP provider to make calls and also the Gigaset.net Echo Service (12341#9) are working fine. Also I can login to the http://www.gigaset.net/myaccount and change the settings without a problem.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Finaly , MWI work with 02097 (12/2007) with asterisk 1.6.x
MWI don't work with asterisk 1.4.x , but it is a problem from asterisk. So, all is ok with Asterisk 1.6.

Sorry, you must read :

I just bought a C475 IP after demo'ing a C470 IP. Everything is fine, except two things: When I receive a msg on the fixed line, the sound is completely garbled (VoIP messages are fine), and, like David, I cant get the machine into English! Mine's stuck in German. Otherwise a perfect solution for my needs.
i have 2 c 470 ip with registration i am ok but whin i call ip to ip
i hear voice 1 second and then all the ip from network disapear.
i have static ip 192.168.2.9 and 192.168.2.17 subnet 255.255.255.0
and internet gateway 192.168.2.1 (router ip)
then must restart the access point to see all the ip
The units are good but troubleshooting is a pain. If there is a mixup between the router and base station then it is possible to register the unit on the router and still not be able to get out. There is not enough given to users to describe how the Base unit is communicating. Does it listen on a stardard port and if so, which RTP port number.
You could really sell this unit like rain water if you would address these issues. Your competition is more expensive.
I need this info asap. I have been trying to get these issues resolved for over a week and am getting tired of this run around. It is costing me money and time.
I've four units and was very very pleased with all of them.
But since the last update in july 2008 , they are useless.
I need to reboot base once a day to get them ringing.
I can't anymore ring 2 sip accounts at the same time.
Please give me back the "old" firmware....
Same deal with me. Since updating to the latest firmware, my audio erratically minutely cut out/fade. The receiver hears ok but on my end sometimes voice cuts and I have ask them to repeat themself. This did not happen to the older firmware!!!!! NOW THAT SUX!
Hello to all,
I am using the C470IP for 6 months now and I am quite happy with it ... using VoipWise (I am not happy with VoipWise ... but that is another story ...)
I had a major issue when I updated the software so i would recommend not to (if it works don't touch it)
I would be interested in having a skype bridge on this phone as most of my contacts are on skype. Is it possible to use for example uplink without using a PC ? (cos that is the the main issue of course and the main reason to buy this phone).
If this is the case will I be able to receive and make skype calls? (only to skype users ... not fixed lines...)
Other than that i find the menus and buttons counter intuitive (as always with siemens....)
I am amazed with the range of this device ...
I agree that the setup is difficult for the non initiated ...
The latest firmware 021230000000 really is bad, I have to reboot the base station once a day as it locks up, cannot gain access via the web etc, reboot (power off an on always works). Will revert to old firmware, SIEMENS please sort this out as I see more people with this issue, basically the Ethernet comms shuts down!
guys how do you revert to an old firmaware please? The new one is causing all sorts of problems. Thanks
Hello,
I updated firmware of my 470IP to 021230000000 / 043.00 and now the phone just hangs once a week or so. There is only one way to get it back working. Power off and on again. Please fix this. Thanks.
C475IP 6 handsets

I have a problem where the phones cut the IP call after about 40 seconds. The landline still works OK. Any suggestions ?

Hello,
someone can tell me if I have two Siemens C475IP on the same network I can make calls between these two phones by IP without PBX.
Thanks,
sSantos
Hi sSantos,
IP calls between two Gigaset IP devices are no problem and working here (at my desk) flawlessly.
Simply type in the IP address of the other device with '*' as seperator. For example:
192*168*1*1

Hello guys:
