As the Siemens Gigaset SX763 WLAN dsl features an analog port for fixed network telephony you may connect your Siemens Gigaset Dect phone with this gateway. One smart special function of the Siemens Gigaset SX763 WLAN dsl is the WLAN enable/ disable shortcut key:

Just press the shortcut keys on the handset of your telephone and the input will be forwarded directly to your gateway w/o pressing a button on your box and w/o starting the configuration program of the gateway in the internet browser. Thoses keys allow to enable and disable the WLAN function of your Siemens Gigaset SX763 WLAN dsl via your telephone handset.

No offense: But who does need such a function? Why would someone enable/disable WLAN anyway?
And why is pressing 4 buttons (#52#) better than any other WLAN router which just has a simple on/off switch?
Hi kusmi,
>Why would someone enable/disable WLAN anyway?
Well there are people out there who want to use WLAN but they are not sure if the radiation compromises their health (especially in Germany...;). Those people want to use WLAN during the day & switch it off when they go to bed.
>And why is pressing 4 buttons (#52#) better than any other WLAN router which just has a simple on/off switch?
True if your router is located with easy access and not hidden somewhere difficult to access. My router is hidden somewhere in the floor and I do use this function but no one is forced to join me :)
Hi Moritz
I agree, radiation is not good.
BUT :-) a DECT phone/basestation does emit about the same radiation as WLAN... some reports even mention, DECT is emitting even more radiation (probably not true for ECO DECT...)
So you need a shortcode to shutdown your DECT basestation as well, and well how to turn it on again :-)

Hi Kusmi,
>I agree, radiation is not good.
To be honest: I myself do not believe in those reports/studies about radiation, be it WLAN, DECT or mobile phone radiation. It might have an effect for your health or it might not. I do not know. Those "analysises" depend in my opinion much on the sponsoring body. If you know what I mean...;)...Objective results are hard to find...
Just a little jest as noted in the margin: When the railway was introduced in the 18th century people used to stand on their tiptoes while they where traveling, because they believed that the vibration & shocks of the railway in motion would thrill their viscera in a way that their whole body is hurt...;)...so maybe the people in 300 years will laugh about us beeing afraid of radiation. What do you think?...;)
>So you need a shortcode to shutdown your DECT basestation as well, and well how to turn it on again :-)
If you turn off your headset at night a first step is done...:-)...but yes: might be another "innovation" of Siemens Gigaset: a shortcut to turn off the DECT station for those who are afraid of DECT radiation...:-)
Hi!
Does anyone have problem with voice echo and this device? I'm unable to get rid of annoying echo, even using echo cancelation and such (i'm using dect phone connected to sx763). It seems that device amplifies mic, and it picks up speaker, so the person on the other side is hearing itself .. Quite anoying ....
H.
Instead of connecting a DECT phone via the analogue port, why can't we have a box that allows connection via DECT...
Hi Andy,
your idea is already announced as Porta 2.0
