Hi ALL,
on this blog we have a lot of requests regarding the availability of the Siemens Gigaset S450 IP on the US market, e.g. here : Siemens Gigaset S450 IP - Hybrid Phone
So I would like to give you a short update:
Yes the Siemens Gigaset S450 IP will be sold in the US, but I can not tell you when and where. The reason: My Siemens Gigaset colleagues in the States are negotiating at the moment with different providers.
Summary: The Siemens Gigaset S450 IP will be sold in the US as soon as a provider is found!
Hang in there guys ... :)

Great. thanks for the update!
Any timeline in mind....is there a mailing list so we can get notified when it is finally available
Hi JNY,
as soon as I have a specific date for the release I will let you know. You may send me an email to info@gigaset-blog.com. I will create a mailing list for the release.
"in the US as soon as a provider is found"
Corporate customers with SIP PBX do not need (or want) a bundled provider as they are their own provider... so why again do we have to wait before we can get this product? If it was an FCC certification thing, I'd understand. Also even if a home user needed SIP service, it is not exactly hard to find one, you could just provide a list of the major options and let the consumer decide who they want to try.
Every VoIP handset using DECT (not 802.11b/g) that I have found that also have good reviews as far as elegant user interface, excellent (maybe even wideband) sound quality, and non-toylike build quality and tactile feel is ether locked to or designed exclusively for Skype, with no SIP option. For example, the Philips equivalent gets such phenomenal reviews, and it's so very frustrating it doesn't have a SIP-enabled version, or even any hacks to make it work with SIP. If this Gigaset comes out in the US locked to Skype or some such it will make me so frustrated I'd want to strangle someone! I'm already enraged enough about the Philips. ARRRRGH! At least this one has source code so if it does get locked or branded we can sanitize it or make it work like we want it to.
If I just want to order from a supplier outside the US, is there anywhere that will ship to the US, right now? I'd rather wait a week or two for shipping if I have to, than who knows how long for US suppliers to have it, as I need it as soon as possible.
Unless you mean "distributor" rather than "provider" but that doesn't make sense either as Siemens has got to already have distribution channels set up for their thousands of other products.
Sorry to vent but I've spent all day hunting for a decent wireless DECT solution and read all this awesome stuff about all sorts of products only to figure out I can't buy them or they don't work with good old standard SIP. Annoyance++
I find it very strange that the announcement that it will be available in the US is made in the same month that an announcement is made that it is being discontinued as it the 675 is the replacement model.
See the story at: http://www.gigaset-blog.com/archive/2008/01/siemens_gigaset_s675_ip_video.html
Tony, a couple things:
- you cannot order the S450IP from outside the US, because the US uses a different frequency band for DECT than Europe (1920-1930MHz and 1880-1900MHz respectively).
- the source code is not really open, only the osip-library part is
- the S450IP will not be locked to Skype (not a SIP-provider, the S450IP is a SIP-phone).
- I agree with you that I hope Siemens is not giving in to USA-resellers who claim they can only sell the product as a package in combination with a provider. The S450IP is supposed to be open. That is the power of the phone. Use it with multiple SIP-providers at the same time, and use the cheapest provider per destination that you call. Mine is used together with a Dutch, a German and a Canadian provider, and it really has saved us a lot of money so far. I really like the call quality, comfort and ease of use of the phone, together with the money I save using it.
Cheers,
Christian
Hi Tony/ Christian,
I also hope that Siemens does not sell the product as a package in combination with a provider. But I cannot promise...it might well be.
@Christian: THX for your input!
Hi voipukuser,
true that! Sounds a little strange but the S675IP is the replacement product of the S450IP.
However there are different dates for the replacement on the markets. But I stick to it: It sounds a little strange that the S450IP is not jet available in the US while in Germany the product is already replaced...;)
great news, i also hope it will not be locked to just one provider...
will S675 IP ever come..?
Hi benjasmine,
well I hope that the S450 IP will ever come...;)...just kidding of course!
So-called Siemens Gigaset "road-maps" promise to replace the S450 IP through the S675 IP. I will keep you up-to-date.
I'm in the US and I have 2 questions about the S450
1) Is it Bluetooth compatible?
2) Does it have a caller id list that displays a list of the calls (name and number) that you missed?
Thank you for your help.
I'm in Norway and just got hold of a S675IP from Sweden. I think the reason that it's not sold in Norway (and US) yet is that all services for it is not set up yet. When you turn on the phone the first time you choose country and get (download) a list of SIP providers in that country. Mine was not on the list and I spent quite some time configuring it manually. There is also a directory service where you can choose a directory and search by name and city or by number. I guess Siemens does not want to sell the phone in a market where this functionality is not implemented. Even if some people are able to set up the SIP account manually, most people are not and it could be a nightmare for customer support at siemens.
hello! i am a Gigaset S450 SIM owner.
is there any option that i can put more themes or ringtones
to the phone??
thank you!
I’m currently using a S410 in Canada. The phone has a missing feature : it doesn’t allows to set the ‘Ring Time’, the time to wait for the user to pick up the phone.
As a result all the call from cellphone are dropped, since the voice mail doesn’t starts.
Is there any solution ? this is *very* annoying

When is this s450 IP product coming out in the US ? It's taking forveer. I would be extremely dissapointed if it is sold with a bundled-locked provider. We don't need another skype vonage phone system. There's too many of those things out there. Need a regular dual traditional SIP phone !!
Hi Kareem,
I will check once again with my colleagues in the States...
I have been waiting forever for the S450 IP to come out in the USA. it was planned for beginning of the year but no news of yet? also, this blog is silent since March...anybody has any ideas..
Is the launch still postponed or cancelled altogether? Thanks
Hi JNY,
yeah well, there is "silence" on this blog in regard to this topic because unfortunately there are no news about the launch of the product ...:(
As I said before: I will let u know as soon as I get infos....
Well, by the time you guys get around to finding a way to the US, it will be obsolete.
I loved my last Siemens home ph, it just died after many years of use, and 3 daughters killing it as fast as they could.
It was a great phone, and I would like to replace it with another similar product, but you guys are fidelling around so long there will be a recession so deep no one will buy anything, and those of us that still can will already have something else.
Stop messing around and bring something to one of the largest markets in the world-USA.
Has anyone managed to connect a European Gigaset IP phone in the US? Wouldn't it be possible to use a currency converter?
