By creating the new design study “Gigaset Eco Visions” Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices (SHC) has taken a further step in realizing their vision of stylish and environmental-friendly cordless phones of superior quality. The first two concept phones out of this series, “Solar” and “Leaf” (picture), were introduced at the Gigaset Press Day 2008 in Windsor. The phones have been engineered to be eco-friendly in terms of design, technology, materials, and characteristics throughout the entire product lifecycle – from manufacturing to recycling.
The Gigaset Eco Visions design study is a direct result of SHC’s environmental excellence strategy and strives to create environmental-friendly, yet stylish cordless phones to make “eco” both accessible and desirable for consumers. Gigaset Eco Visions give ECO DECT shape using futuristic, yet existing technology.
Ecology and Technology
The Gigaset Eco Visions Leaf and Solar are made of recyclable raw materials, such as eco-plastic and liquid wood. Sun-light is used as a natural energy source for handsets. An eco-index provides the “nutritional facts” regarding the environmental-friendliness of each phone. This includes the percentage of organic materials and number of components used at disassembly, the energy consumption and emissions in use and production as well as the how recyclable each product is.
Both models include OLED (Organic light-emitting diode) technology, a highly efficient, low-energy display technology with brilliant clarity. OLEDs can be printed on nearly any material (transparent or flexible) and offer sensor touchpad applications on these materials.
Sub-natural and green
The mid-range handset in the Eco Visions series , together with its base station, Leaf has a unique natural design reminiscent of a leaf in spring. The eco plastics provide sensational haptics and substantial convenience. The invisible OLED display is embedded in a translucent lens encasement, giving the phone a futuristic touch.
Next week I will present you the second design study: "Solar"

This phone is totally cool. I am glad to see eco-friendly electronics are becoming more and more available. Modular buildings made with green materials are now becoming available too. Soon, our entire home environment can be Green!
What a great phone. green one..
