Check this new vacuum cleaner design concept: the BacVac. There is no reason any more to carry around all those moving parts. Just wear them on your back like a backpack. The engine is powered by a fuel cell, avoiding all tedious cables which are bothering you. The fuel cell would be replenished with readily available ethanol.
