New Firmware for Siemens Gigaset IP Phones

Dear IP-phone community,
pls take notice of the updated firmware of the Siemens Gigaset C470 IP, C475 IP, S675 IP and S685 IP!

How to update the firmware

You don't need to download files. The firmware is updated directly online by the Siemens Gigaset C470 IP, C475 IP, S675 IP or S685 IP. You can easily initiate the update by three steps:

1. Menu » Settings » Base » Firmware Update
2. Enter base station system PIN (default setting: 0000)
3. Press the display key "Yes" to start the download

If your firmware is already up to date, the handset informs you. No action is needed then.

And this is what you get:

New Features

* Compatibility with A58H and C38H Handsets (including Infoscreensaver as Liveticker)
* New languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Russian (country and handset dependent)
* BEL, NLD: Autoconfigurationcode-enquiry added in the Handset's connection assistant

Improvements

* NAT Traversal improved
* STUN can be disabled for Gigaset.net
* Email-Notification: display of date and subject improved, lenght of Email address up to 74 characters
* Display IP-Address without leading "0"s during the paging call
* Entries out of the calls list will be fully copied into the telephone directory, if the name was displayed from online phonebook.
* Web configurator: does not show "********" for empty password
* SMS Status Report function improved
* SIP Protocol implementation improved
* Incorrect recall after a successful call transfer fixed
* Display Scandinavian characters
* Answering machine functionality improved

How to check for your firmware version

* Via Web Configurator: Status » Firmware version » The first 5 digits indicate the number of the firmware update
* If you are in a call (> 8 sec): Menu » Service-Info » Scroll to list entry number 4. The first 5 digits indicate the number of the firmware update

Hi,

I performed the update on my C470 IP and everything seemed fine. But outgoing calls are cut after approx. 1 min. Incoming calls work fine. I didn't have this problem with the old firmware so please send me a link where I can download the previous version so I can downgrade my phone again.

Thanks in advance,
Thomas

PS: I'm using my phone with a Netgear WGT624 router and the ports 5060 (SIP), 5004 (RTP) and 10000 (STUN) are forwarded to the phone.

I just tried to download the new firmware with c470IP but after this operation the system is not working anymore, and in the setting menu handset i cannot see the Base reset option. The Base setting menu is empty ... so I cannot reset the base and even throught the paging button ...any help?

New languages are good, but those seem to be regarding the translation for the base' web interface

My device has been purchased in Germany and I have to try understanding its answering machine, which is talking German only

What is the way to make it speaking English?

Alexey 9:23 PM, August 9, 2008

I got exactly the same problem as Stefano while upgrading my C470IP's firmware. After update I cannot pair the handset with base, cannot connect to base via HTTP (it get's an IP from DHCP as earlier, and responds to ping packets). The manual reset didn't help neither. It's now the first brick in this house having an own IP.

Help me?

How do I add a Russian language support to my C47H handset? I'd like to have contacts in Russian! I'd like to read RSS in Windows-1251 encoding!

Serge 3:54 AM, August 14, 2008

I bought 2 units of Gigaset S685 IP VOIP phones. For the 1st unit, I was prompted to update the firmware when I was setting up the phone. After the update, the handset can no longer connect to the base station. I followed to the procedure in the manual to reset the handset and base station, and tried to re-register the the handset to the base station, but still without success. I then tried to register the handset to the base station of the 2nd unit. Success. I then tried to connect the handset of the 2nd unit to the base station of the 1st unit. Failed. So it seems that after the firmware update of the 1st set, the base station of the 1st set stopped functioning. Please advise ASAP! Thank you.

My Gigaset 4215 keeps flashing Base 1. It refuses all the manual's instructions for resetting. Is there any other way (physically possibly)?

Thanks

mizzy 8:10 PM, August 20, 2008

I see several people reporting that the firmware upgrade process was either interrupted or otherwise failed and the base is unable to communicate with the handset as well as on http interface. Is there a manual work-around to either rollback to the old firware version or complete the upgrade process manually?

Is there a manual firmware update utility for the Siemens Gigaset family?

Aditya 2:06 PM, September 6, 2008

I am using several C470IP bases with SL35H and C47 phones. Generaly 2 phones are connected to one base. They are registered on a Asterisk PBX.
Since I upgraded the C470IP bases to the newest firmware I am having several problems including:
- The user has problems keeping the session alive on the voip provider.
- Somethimes we hear a disturbing loud static noise during 1 second when making a call.
- When making a call it hangs after 1 calling tone.

Is there any way to downgrade to the previous version, when I was very happy with Siemens?

David 6:18 PM, September 18, 2008

Dial Plan! what Dial Plan.... I just can't believe that a phone S685 IP which is so wrapped up in providing non-essential features like "weather" on the display has such limited dial plan features that mean having to dial full international dialing and country code before dialing national telephone number if using a Betamax group service provider. This exceeds stupidity. A voip phone without the most elemental of voip requirements. If there is not a fix for this I will air my regrets very publicly.

Has anyone solved the issue of the handset not conencting to the base station?

Ian 2:17 PM, October 1, 2008

Like many other US users, I bought my SL565 in Germany (for some reason, they are not available in US). The phone has multi-lingual menu (including English), but there is NO WAY to change voice mail language. Siemens support had only one suggestion: buy the phone in English-speaking country. Obviously, too late for that.
So where is that German text stored? Isn’t it just a simple software update? They said – no. Can I get a chip or a board with English language and replace it myself? Or can I simply buy that box that was made for UK?
I found multiple questions about it on the Internet, but no answer. Please, if anybody has a solution – post it here! Thank you!

Vlad 12:03 AM, October 11, 2008

Hi,
Since I upgarded the firmware I have an issue with audio when I receive calls ... 90% of time, when I receive a call, there is no audio at all ... it was working great with the previous firmware.
How can I downgrade the phone to the former firmware ? I can't find the file for download ...
Thanks!

sip 12:46 PM, October 30, 2008

Hi,
I meet a critical problem since last firmware upgrade : After a few hours or days (when lucky), some incoming calls does not ring my handset. When do you think a new firmware fixing that issue will be delivered ? It seems that other users have the same symptoms that me, so i hope siemens understands that the problem is real and needs an urgent solution !

John 10:36 AM, November 6, 2008

It it possible to add full russian language support to C47H? Now I can't have a russian phonebook, because I can't type russian letters in phonebook.

Gleb 3:48 PM, November 10, 2008

NAT traversal in the new firmware is completely broken. If I disable STUN, voice does appear sometimes in calls SIP-SIP, but with STUN - never.
I tested following SIP phones:
1) SIP ATA Edge-Core VG-007
2) eyebeam softphone
3) sjphone softphone
4) Siemens Gigaset C470 IP
All phones has the same VoIP settings, all phones were installed in the same LAN.
I made calls to SIP number over the Internet, then that person called to me. There was no voice ONLY with Siemens Gigaset C470 IP.
Previous firmware was ok. Where can I download previous firmware???
HELP!!!

Gleb 3:12 AM, November 12, 2008

I purchased S685IP some time ago. Generally I am very please with the product execpt for one very bad problem

------Ethernet port on the device appears to stop responding after a random amount or time - typically a few days------

It seems there is a bug with the current firmware Ver(021230000000 / 043.00) and as a result of this bug it of course cuts you off un expecedly (although 'im informed that other can still hear me on the call).

After many emails to Siemens Gigaset support and confusing the issue with NAT, they agreed to release a new firmware "beofre xmas". So in the mean time i have to power cycle the box every time this occurs and wait around 2mins for it to boot and register with my SIP proider.

I have made it clear to Gigaset support that if this does not fix my issue I will be returning the entire phone system and replacing it with another manufacturers.

This is not the sort of thing you expect from a company such as Siemens.

Paul Durnien 6:36 PM, November 12, 2008

For those having problems with upgrading the firmware on their Gigaset phone. Have a look at this - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=927308&p=7#r132 . Some routes and/or firewalls will block the device from getting a new firmware. Try putting the gigaset on a different router and let it upgrade itself.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem i'm having with my Gigaset A265 phone. The display keeps flashing 'base'. Any ideas how to sort this problem?

Thanks.

Cale Jade 7:42 PM, December 10, 2008

Updated my s675IP with the latest firmware but calling from IP to a remote fixed line phone fails almost everytime now. A bleeping sound is heard in the handsett a couble of times and the the display says 'in use'. Repeating this procedure may eventually may make the call succeed. The fixed line receiver of the call has never been busy during these trials.
HELP!!

Dialling 211 emergency gives the same problem!!!

HELP HELP!!

Michael Troelsen 12:58 PM, December 13, 2008

I've just read the latest comments and apparently the last firmware upgrade of my Siemens Gigaset C470 IP is causing problems. It is no longer possible to make a call: there is a strange beep before the tone, then the phone rings ones and then I receive a busy status.
On the other hand I can receive calls without any problems.
So what's up???

Christian Lambillotte 7:25 PM, December 15, 2008

The problem mentionted in my previous post was caused by a faulty gateway at my IP-provider musimi. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hello,
I've just bought an A580 IP. It worked fine until I tried to upgrade the firmware.

A strange thing: my router lost ADSL link maybe during the upgrade.

How can I rollback to previous version?

I bought a Siemens Gigaset C475 IP. First everything worked fine. After a firmware update I have problems with incoming land line calls. Sometimes the phone doesnt ring at all, sometimes only twice then stops. Sometimes after five to seven silent rings (caller can hear it ringing) it starts ringing. Voip is working fine. Another phone works fine with my land line. I tried all types of resets, also another C475 IP. Support said they dont know about problems with the firmware and I should reset the system. blahblah. Anybody knows how to return to the old firmware?

Andre H 5:46 PM, February 1, 2009

Hey guys,
as ur lost connection of base and handset seems to be a common problem I will try to find out if there is a solution.

Moritz 11:06 AM, February 2, 2009

Hey Moritz, thanks a lot for your help on this one. It seems really strange. At the time i had written my rant I had waited approx 30 minutes which to me seems sufficient time. I have now connected the phone to the router over night and hurray / the update was succesful and works again. I would have tried to connect the phone at a friends house as I thought perhaps it is to do with the firewall. But thank god that was not necessary in this case. I believe Siemens should have some possibility of recovery to the old firmware if the update goes wrong.

Thanks anyway for your very fast answer. Do you work for Siemens or are you a Gigaset fan?

Andre H 12:15 PM, February 2, 2009

My handset is also flashing "Base1" and its refusing to connect with the base-station after the firmware update.

please help me.

Gianni Martorana 3:32 PM, February 2, 2009

Hi Andre H,
I used to be an Siemens employee but not any more at the moment. You can take me as a "blog fan" instead of Gigaset fan. But the TeleCom topic offers a lot of input to run a blog, of course mainly about Gigaset products on this gigaset-blog.

I will let you know as soon as i have news.

I have the same problem....new c475 IP. All fine then firmware update and am completly unable to connect to base station even after base reset. Please anyone what shpuld I do?

David 7:11 PM, February 7, 2009

My c470 IP suddenly cannot see the BASE. it flashes "BASE 1" continiuosly.....tried re registtering the handset and no luck....tried swtching base off and on again and that does not help either.....anyone??

Mams 11:39 AM, February 8, 2009

An update to my "BASE 1" flashing issue with C470IP

I had to send my phone into Siemens and they sent me a brand new phone.

It looks like this is a common issue with the phone. Appreciate if someone from Siemens can look into it.

Priyanga K 12:30 AM, February 9, 2009

Hi,
I have issues with my S685IP.
I am getting the same problem as Paul above.
Basically after a random time it seems like the IP part of the base stop responding. I cannot access it anymore via the web interface nor can ping it.
I sent an email to support but unfortunately they are blaming my router... I tried to explain that my router isn't the issue, in fact, I cannot even connect to the base by connecting it back to back with a PC.
It is looking like their is a bug in the firmware that causes problem with the IP stack...
Any idea?
I have turned off additonal features such as weather forcast, will try turning of NTP on the base but would really appreciate if someone at Siemens could look into this.
Really desappointed with the support team by the way...

Fabien 9:38 PM, February 9, 2009

By the way, the only way to get the base to work again is to power-cycle it...
Surely this is not right...

Fabien 9:41 PM, February 9, 2009

ANyone with a solution to my C470IP that is still flashing "BASE1" ??

Mams 9:41 PM, February 11, 2009

@Thomas Hotz
Try to make an Update behind another Router, I have had the same Problem in Mexico; update starts and then the Phone was DEAD. I Think there are some routers with faulty DNS-Server-Function.
I put the router behind another (Type) Router, after a long While the Update strarts Automacily and all my Problems with the Phone are gone

Whilst setting up a new sC475IP for a friend... working fine whilst connected to my router...could not see gigaset setup page whilst connected to her PC via a hub, but worked here. Maually set up phone, and then installed at her home. Connection fine, phone works perfectly for about 4 minutes conversation is terminated, and then gives one of the following error messages : OX2BE OR OX321.

Has anyone any ideas. Many thanks.

stan 5:43 PM, February 19, 2009

Just run the update and now have the flashing 'base1", is it possible for me to fix this problem, or is the only option to send it back to be repaired under warranty.

Greg M 10:26 PM, February 19, 2009

Hi all,
This is an update about the issue I had with a S685IP base that stopped responding after random times.
Basically it seems like this is a layer-2 issue. It seemed like my router might have been forwarding/sending malformed frames that put the base into the non-responsive state.
After inserting a Netgear switch in between my D-Link DIR-655 and the base it seems like the problem disappeared.
Regards,

Anonymous 12:03 PM, March 18, 2009

Hi,

i have the same problem with S685IP behind a D-Link DIR-655 router. Gigaset stops working after random times (usually 24h).

I tried severeal D-Link DIR-655 firm versions no luck. I added now a switch between DIR 655 and S685IP as proposed by GREG M (thanks for the hint).

I hope this will solve the problem, and i hope SIEMENS will release a new firmware where this strange issue is solved.
Regards.

After upgrading to Firmware-Version: 021840000000 / 043.00 I have problems with prefix which is automatically added to numbers which are from the same prefix. I dial like 030-1234 and 030030-1234 is dialed by the phone. My numbers are stored in the phonebook with prefix because of flexible dialing in case of voip connections.
Shortly after resetting the gigaset by removing the power plug everything is fine but after some time the problem occurs again. Is this a bug in the new firmware?

jens huene 12:17 PM, April 26, 2009

So many problems unsolved! SIEMANS! PLEASE ANSWER SOME OF THEM! My handset has suddnely stopped connecting to the base and shows '3' in the display when i try and make a call (C385). Please tell me how to deal with this as soon as possible.

Hi,
after update Siemens C470IP for Firmware version: 021840000000 / 043.00
EEPROM version: 155
all incoming calls are deaf. If I call everything is all right. Only when someone call to me I can't hear, and the second person also can't hear me. What should I do?

Rawik 12:54 PM, April 30, 2009

Current firmware release (184) allows to redirect the online directory service to your own directory server. This can be done by a hidden web page. See http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=190928 for more details on this.

Best regards,
ipuser

thank you for your comment on April 26, 2009. You wrote:

We are taking this bug very serious and want to eliminate it. This is why my colleagues from Product Management and me need more information about this issue, in order to improve the Firmware. We have some questions for you:

First, will the prefix be added for fixed-line and/or IP calls?

Second, which is your current configuration? Did you define in the Web Configurator -> Settings -> Telephony -> Dialling Plans the "Local prefix/area code"? Did you activate in the Web configurator "Predial area code for local calls trough VoIP"?

Third, do you use dialling plans?

We from Siemens Gigaset would like to get in direct contact with you to solve the problem. The best thing for us would be if you could contact me on mschaeufele(at)gmail.com. I would make contact then between you and my colleagues from Product Management.
If you prefer to stay anonym please answer here on this blog.

Thank you very much for your cooperation! This is the spirit and intended purpose of this Gigaset-Blog!

Hello
I'm using 10 units 470 IP phones with soft version 02123000000000/043.00, don´t use any service.
The only CODEC in use is G711U.
The phone is working ok, but sometimes when receive a call doesn´t send the microphone voice, look like a MUTE microphone.
I have donne a protocol trace and I can see when fail the SIP protocol handsahke is correct and the RTP transmission is correct in both sides but the phone send only FF in its RTP payload.
If hang the call and retry again the phone work ok.
Every day some of the 10 phones do this effect , I had checked more problems when the phone receive continuos calls, if the next incoming call delay is less than 2 minutes.
The 470 phone ever listen to the caller and the problem is in incoming calls only.
I have captures if you need more information.
