The Siemens Gigaset Story 3 - Expanding the portfolio
Categories: Specials

20080720_E450grey.jpgThis article focusses on how Siemens Gigaset tried to reach all consumer target groups through the expansion of its portfolio and the launch of certain niche products from year 2004 onwards and is a continuation of those 2 prior posts:
The Siemens Gigaset Story 1 - How it all began
The Siemens Gigaset Story 2 - The new millennium

The Siemens Gigaset E150 was the first phone in the Siemens portfolio to be tailored to the special needs of older people. It offered extra-large keys and numbers, louder ringtones and an emergency call function. The concept was a huge success in the market, and in 2004 the E150 was certified by the German Gesellschaft für Gerontotechnik (Society for Gerontotechnology).

The Siemens Gigaset S645 was also launched in 2004. It had a separate base station whose handsfree function could be used for making calls. There is still great demand for this model today.

The Siemens Gigaset SL440 followed the unconventional design of the CL100, which recalled the handsets and rotary dials of an earlier era as a result of the circular arrangement of the keys. However, the Siemens Gigaset SL440 boasted far more features in an elegant, glossy black exterior with a color display, language selection, SMS and handsfree speaking.

In 2005, VoIP telephony was possible with Siemens Gigaset handsets for the first time. The Siemens Gigaset M34 USB enabled a wireless DECT connection between the PC and, via the base station, the handset. As a result, users could phone over the Internet with Skype and read incoming e-mails on their handset anywhere at home.

2005 once again saw an extensive portfolio ranging from convenient family phones to elegant high-tech phones. The Siemens Gigaset E450 was specially designed for rugged use by families with small children, in the garden or the workshop: it is shock-, dust- and splashwater-resistant.

The Siemens Gigaset SL550 was designed for upscale requirements. It combines high-tech with aparticularly elegant design. For the first time, contact data from Outlook and photos could be synchronized between the phone and a PC thanks to the Gigaset Quick Sync software.

In the last part of The Siemens Gigaset Story you will read how VoIP became the most important topic for Siemens Gigaset since the year 2006 until now.
