Hi,

Great looking phone. Are there any plans for a VoIP version - if so, any idea on time frame - 2, 3, 6, 12 months?

Cheers,

Andy

Nice Phone.

Jack Taylor 2:06 PM, November 28, 2008

Why isn't this available in the US?

Ben 11:45 PM, November 30, 2008

Hi Ben,
in regard to the reasons I can only give you rumors:
It seems that the US market is to difficult for Gigaset to enter because you have different phone standards and not DECT.
Also: The market situation is very difficult, complicated and in therefore hard to enter (provider driven).

Moritz 11:25 AM, December 1, 2008

I have bought this phone and I am amazed by the address book for 500 contacts...if you have lots of contacts it is even more necessary to group all these contacts. Even my BenQ mobile phone has this group by function...I think this is a standard function.

I asked the Gigaset customer service email people when we might be able to get the SL780 in the USA. Here is the (disappointing) answer I received:

"We would like to thank you for your inquiry. For questions regarding Gigaset cordless phones you can contact our Customer Care Centre from Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6pm, excluding Bank Holidays.

Here at Gigaset Communications our aim is to provide complete customer satisfaction, therefore every single inquiry from you as a customer is handled with the utmost importance.

In regards to the query sent about the Gigaset SL780, we regret to inform that this device will not be available to be purchased in the US market.

For any query or consultation on supported products, please do not hesitate to contact us on the number or via e-mail indicated below.

We hope to have answered your query and to have been helpful with the information provided.

Message for US people... you can buy it on eBay, but you need to replace the adapter, since this Gigaset is not made for the US market and her electricity protocols. You can ask a specialized electricitnist to make a good an=d working adapter for you to make it work in the US. This is how I did it, when I bought the Gigaset 8825 which was speicially made for the US market only and which I used for years in the Netherlands.

Mischa Knauf 9:42 PM, December 9, 2008

Hi Mischa Knauf,
thanks for your information. This is also what I have heard from different users in the US.

Moritz 5:48 AM, December 10, 2008

Hi Mischa, that's great news, thank you! Could you give some more advise on how make such an adapter?

Ken 5:32 AM, December 28, 2008

Actually, it's unwise to import Euro DECT hardware into the US. They operate on different frequencies and you would in fact be breaking the law. The Euro DECT band is licensed for use by public safety agencies (police, fire, ambulance) in the US.

Michael Graves 7:42 PM, January 11, 2009

Hi... I would love to know if/when this phone will be available in Canada.

Anonymous 7:01 AM, January 12, 2009

Hi Michael,

thanks for this useful information! This is one of the reasons why Siemens is so slow in moving into the US market.

There are no plans so far to offer this phone in Canada. Sry...

Moritz 2:18 PM, January 12, 2009

Good news!!!
No need to try to "smuggle" the SL780/SL785 out of the U.K. or Europe and getting an electrician to custom build an adapter for the North American customer...

I found this Jan 12, 2009 article announcing that it's finally being introduced in the U.S. some time in 2009 (month not mentioned). No word on Canada...but I'll "smuggle" it out of the U.S. if I have to! Our electricity standards should be the same.

WH 6:14 AM, January 29, 2009

Hi, the Siemens SL785 will be finally available exclusively via liGo Electronics from the 15/05/2009.

Siemens SL785 7:39 PM, May 11, 2009

LiGo Electronics is a U.K. company and has nothing to do with availability of the Gigaset products in the U.S.

An email reply from the U.S. Gigaset marketing group said they are working on bringing the SL785 into the U.S. but they had no firm date yet. I'm assuming that this is because they have not yet completed FCC and UL testing or worked out final pricing.

Tom Mehrens 9:05 AM, May 16, 2009

Is there a "notify me" registry anywhere so that we can be notified when the new gigaset models will be available in the USA?
