20071012_ECODECTLogo.jpgWhat is ECO DECT?

ECO DECT is a new technology that reduces the power consumption and transmission power of DECT phones.

ECO DECT benefits overview

* Up to 60% less energy use thanks to an energy-saving power supply in comparison to our conventional cordless phones

* Reduction of transmitting power to almost zero when handset is docked with only one registered handset

* ECO Mode - for reduction of transmitting power by 80% for all registered handsets – in comparison to when ECO Mode is not activated and our conventional cordless phones (dependent on distance from base station).

* Variable reduction of transmitting power according to distance between handset and base station for all registered handsets – in comparison to when ECO Mode is not activated and our conventional cordless phones (Dependent on distance from base station).

How much energy does ECO DECT save?

ECO DECT-based Gigaset phones can cut power consumption by 60% compared to conventional Gigaset handsets. Assuming that a phone is used for an average of 2 hours a day, the switched-mode power supply can cut power consumption by roughly 2 watts (from 3.5 to 1.3 watts).

Extrapolating that figure for the 39 million households in Germany, for example, annual savings would amount to 80 megawatts. Moreover, fewer raw materials like copper and iron are needed to manufacture a switched-mode power supply than a power supply for a linear handset.

How does ECO DECT help the environment?

ECO DECT-based Gigaset phones are now supplied exclusively with switched-mode power supplies. They cut power consumption by up to 60% compared with conventional linear power supplies.

Will Gigaset phones with ECO DECT cost more for consumers?

No, consumers will not have to pay more for ECO DECT-based Gigaset phones. We have ECO DECT-based Gigaset phones in all price categories.

Is there a radiation risk with ECO DECT-based Gigaset phones?

The international limits for radio wave transmission ensure that there are no risks. Our products fall well below these recommended limits. Further information about the discussion on radio waves and health is provided by the World Health Organization on their website (www.who.int/peh-emf/en)

Even though there is still no scientific evidence that radio waves emitted by DECT phones are harmful, SHC’s approach is to equip all its Gigaset phones with functions that enable the automatic or manual reduction of transmitting power.

Will ECO DECT technology impact performance of the phone?

No, you can expect the same superior performance in ECO DECT-based products as in all Gigaset phones. If you choose to use ECO Mode, you manually reduce the signal distance by 50%, or to 25 meters inside the home and 150 meters outside..

Are the inside components of ECO DECT phones environmentally friendly, too?

Yes. We’ve ensured that all steps in the production and disposal of ECO DECT and ECO Broadband products are as environmentally responsible and resource-conserving as possible. This starts with a solid, material-saving design and the use of environmentally friendly materials. We use state-of-the-art energy-saving machines and packaging and residual materials are systematically separated and recycled. The design, size and recyclable materials of the packaging play another key role

As far as logistics is concerned, the focus is on the use of an environmentally friendly means of transport, such as rail or ship, and on the efficient utilization of the vehicles’ cargo space. At the end of the chain, there is also service – here we avoid replacing parts and devices unnecessarily thanks to an individualized repair process. Finally, all remaining electronic waste is disposed of properly.

What about lead - are your products lead-free?

Yes. All of our Gigaset products have been lead free for more than two years now.

Hi, looking for a new phone I stumbled upon this page. You are writing that the ECO mode would save 80 megawatts annually in Germany. This statement is incorrect. The ECO mode would save 80 megawatts Continuously or about 700 gWh (Giga Watt hour) Annually. The difference being power versus energy. Energy is power during an amount of time.

To illustrate the amount of energy saved you could compare this number to the average amount of energy used by a household (annually about 3500kWh). According to my calculation the savings would equal the energy usage of 200.000 households.

I can't set the ECO DECT on my SL560 headset connected with Gigaset SX303isdn base.
I can' t found on the screen of my headset the term "ECO DECT"

I have the 6phone 685IP system. The phones work fine except after about 3 weeks use, the callerID stops working. I see the caller's number, but it does not match it to the address book in the phone. The call log just shows a list of numbers as well. After I have reset the phone, all works fine again and even the old call log (which is still there after a reset), then shows the correct names rather than numbers. This happens on all 6 phones at different times. When one stops working - the others still work fine so it has nothing to do with the phone line. I have had the base station replaced but it has made no difference.

Any ideas? As I purchased the phones when they first came out, could there have been a bad batch of phones?

I have spoken to Siemens and they have seen this problem before, but have been unable to solve the problem so I just wondered if anyone here has seen this problem and knows a solution.

Thanks

Jon

I have a Gigaset 685 IP and when making IP calls the destination rings and when they answer then can hear my voice but on the 685 I cannot hear them. Making voice calls works perfectly.
Has anyone experienced this, or knows how to resolve it?

Also, re Jon's message on 27th Jan. I have also seen this problem occurring occasionally and have been unable to resolved it.
